i am planning a 160-170 ride in a few weeks. after 60 miles there will be a 4-5 hour break before the final 100 miles.

does anyone have any ideas of the best things to eat/drink during the rest?

i amthinking about a specific cycling recovery drink and a bowl of pasta....?

What's with the 4 or 5 hour break?

Anyway, I prefer rice, bread, bananas, raisins, and hammer nutrition perpetuum. All of which can be carried in one back mounted pannier.

Also... a 170 mile ride is not the time to experiment. Go with what has worked for you in the past. If you have no experience, you may be surprised at the results.

I'd plan on some real food right at the beginning of the rest - something with a fair bit of carbs and protein and not too much fat. That and a goodly amount of fluid.

Try not to eat too much during the last 2 hours before you start riding again - it's best to start a tiny bit hungry.

Oh, and if you feel like napping during the break, that would also be good.
