Fifty Plus (50+) - Should there be a 50+ OT subforum?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
And, if so, what should it be called?
Try to find something wrong with how this* poll is broken down, you nay-sayers and hooligans.

There's no "maybe." :D
Yeah, but then we'd have to add "maybe not" and the whole voting procedure would be less decisive!

I'm confused...not sure what to vote (yes or no). I like the wisdom and
acceptance of the 50+ forum. I don't like the sarcasm and sometimes
mean spirited conversation I've encounted in some of the other forums.
I do not wish to search through the drivvel of Foo to share life experiences
with other 50+ folks who also enjoy cycling. I'm just getting to feel like a
member of this group and I would hate for our threads to start getting
scattered about.
I guess I would prefer our posts stay easily accessable, if that means
we need a 50+ subforum then so be it.....otherwise, leave the threads
by 50+'ers in the 50+ forum.
Just my opinion.....
"Yes", but keep it in the main 50+ forum, at the top where the stickies are.

In the true spirit of 50+ crankiness: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But, more seriously, for what purpose? I would hate to see a division of purely bike and "foo". What's cool about here is the nice blending of bikes and real life-- iintegrating riding with daily living is what we're all about.
It does seem dumb, I agree. How often have they moved stuff to Foo? If these two cases were the first time in months, then maybe it's not such a big deal. Disturbing, but not such a big deal...

Along those lines, I suggest an additional option in the poll: "No, but keep off-topic posts in the 50+ forum."
There isn't an option that will please everyone.

Who is going to be sure they are sorted correctly? I nominate Digital Gee :D
By sorted, do you mean seeing that they remain off-topic in the sub-forum, and on-topic in the main forum? Alphabetically by topic or poster ? :)

For a while there, way back, it was quite regular. The mods seem to operate pretty independently, and I think when new ones come on, they take their duties quite "seriously," without regard to the broader context!

I'd like to change my vote from yes to no. Maybe.
If there were an OT subforum within the 50+ forum, I'd still read all the posts, so what's the point anyway? If it's in lieu of having all the posts moved to Foo or somewhere else, then I would opt for the 50+ OT subforum. What is a foo anyway? I always thought it was for way way off topic wacky posts about politics, religion, and such.
On third thought, by the time these posts are moved they are pretty well worn out, so it doesn't matter all that much - keep the status quo!

I decline, unless the job comes with a new bike, or bike clothes, or bike parts.

How about a paint job for your bike - surely any color is better than white?
Sure, and call it ol' foo.

It's perfect the way it is. Don't leave the cake out in the rain.
Don't leave the cake out in the rain.
Why would anyone put a cake out in the rain in the first place?
The solution is as obvious as the nose on your face.
Have a foo forum and a PIE forum.

So it's unanimous that we're split 50/50.

Isn't ( OT ) Old Timers 50+ one of those oxymorons I've heard about?
And, if so, what should it be called?

Where's the 'rat's ring' option? (as in 'couldn't give a ...') :D
Not for me, but only because time contraints would make it hard to be involved - cripes, I'm marginal as it is with the main forum.

Am I the only one who seemingly has no clue what the abreviations are all about?
+OT ???
FOO ???
Please send me the Magic Decoder Ring ASAP (Oops! - I mean As Soon As Possible).
I do get the "50+" part (at least I think it means 'over fifty years old' - but if I'm wrong please correct me) and I do frequently read this forum as well as many others. But please help out a 65- who may be loosing my cognitive capability but who loves cycling and fixing the machines so they keep doing their job smoothly.

Don't leave the cake out in the rain.
Ugh! There was a woman who used to live above us who was a singer, and one weekend she had to learn the lyrics to MacArthur Park for some kind of singing engagment. You think you hate that song now? Try listening to it non-stop for two days!

Yep, I guess you are!:D
Here's some help.
I am not quite sure what the + means, but OT = Off Topic
Foo = a special forum (you will see it listed near the bottom of the Bike Forums main page) for nonsense, off topic (OT) stuff, and general madness.
Here is a link to the FOO forum and a recent post:

Tonight, I officially renounced my citizenship in the 50+ forum. I finally realized that 50+ is quite the snobbish clique. Unless you are 50+ and spend 99% of your time there, you are persona non grata. I might be 53, but I don't care to discuss AARP...retirement...aching knees...kidney stones....prostate exams...the freaking flat bar vs. drops debate.... I live in Northern California...that leaves me with two spots on BF that I really enjoy...Norhtern California..and Foo...MOSTLY FOO. I like to think of Foo as home. I figure we have it all...young, old, men, women, whatever...and you guys are the best on BF...anyways..I like it here.

The rest of his comments in that post should be read by 50+ members.

I can donate the Look pedals. Unless he wears a women's size 8 shoe he'll need to buy his own shoes:D

I voted no. I haven't the time to read all the sub-forums already here at BF. One more might put me over the edge.
Do I need to admit to my age, gender and bicycles, or has that been resolved yet? :D
We've had non-cycling friends visiting since Fri. and I'm 'way behind in my reading. I wish there was a drug I could take that would help with that, but it's probably banned. :(
I'm new to the whole bike forum. I haven't joined the 50+ yet, even though I'm very qualified. I agree with the cranky old dude, I'm confused and I like the wisdom and acceptance of the 50+. So would somebody be so kind and repeat the pros and cons?

Let any subject come up that 50+ers are contemplating. I surmise my opinion may shock some; however, if someone is out of line, they are usually informed of other opinions.
Freedom of speech, no matter how poorly some of us grammatically express our freedom to the consternation of others, is still, the last time I looked, in the Bill of Rights. The mods have the right to police this forum to meet the decency of the mass of this forum. If we don't like their decisions, and there have been time I disagree with their opinions, the golden rule still applies. "Those that have the gold rule." We play in another's house; therefore, someone else sets the rules. Thankfully, that someone else seems very agreeable to making the 50+ forum a self policed forum.

Making the 50+ forum a sub-genre of Foo somehow seems more appropriate. :)
