Hiya. I'm in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I got started with cycling about a year ago when I was hostelling in Toronto and was utterly blown away by how throroughly the public transportation and relative bike friendliness of the city influenced life there. I've been commuting to work (only a few miles) most of the time by bike since about February. Getting in much better shape and all that.
The bike I have is a rather tall (as am I) late 80s touring bike (a Centurion Accordo) from a thrift store here ($25). The wheelset and derailers were in bad shape, but the frame is great. I gradually fixed it up, learned how to do most of the repairs and tuning for it (and my roommate's bike) myself, and finally built a new fixed-gear wheelset for it. :D Working on a singlespeed mountain bike at the moment, also.
