Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Northern state's next ride...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Thought I'd start this thread so we can plan out next trip!
Here's some links to start us thinking... I like the name of the "Iron Crotch" ride. Make an interesting T-shirt.

Also, I wouldn't mind going down south to the flood area. Much of it open and really hurting because the bikers are showing up. The locals need support.

That headwaters 100 out of Park Rapids is the "Itasca" ride I was telling you about. I thought it was in October but I guess it's right away on the 22nd. There is a duathlon here in Fargo that I was considering participating in.
OK, let's start planning the spring ride! Any ideas?

We could do a "freeze you butt off" ride down there in mid October. The trail might be pretty well covered in leaves though. Otherwise next year.

To bad I'm busy this day. Otherwise I would run over and do this ride in Galesville WI on Oct 6th. They ride through the apple orchards. I've talked to a couple people that have done it and they say it's a phenomenal ride.

Here is the website for the biking group in that area.

I, on the other hand, am free that day and may just do this ride! Good find, Caincando!
Pupsocket, what do you have going on that day? Anyone else?
That last link of the local bike club was funny... they had a ride that was right up Tom Stormcrowe's alley... "the hipbreaker".

How about the January 1st Polar Bear Ride....BBBRRRRRRRRRRR:eek::eek::eek: I try it.:D
We should think of a name for ourselves in this region, so it's easier to identify when we announce events. Like:
The Frozen Clydes are doing a ride in March, anyone want to join?
or
Attention, Popcycles, this sunday we're meeting at XXX.
or
Numb-butt Northerners, get your bikes tuned up for the Mille Lacs ride!

I think you should do it. I will however warn you that anything other than the 20 mile ride will be in the hills. Trempealeau county is FAR from flat.

Wow...sorry to butt in...
I grew up in Brownsville, MN and went to school in Caledonia (not too far from Lanesboro). Sort of my old stomping grounds. I get up there to visit family several times a year (La Crosse, WI). If one of your rides happens to be a time when I'm up there do you mind a ride crasher from TN? I am a native Minnesotan and still a Vikings fan! :D
I did my my first long ride sort of in that area. I called it my Tri-State River Ride. It was 76.5 miles (my previous long at that point was 38 miles). It was a beautiful ride along the Mississippi River. Check out the route here http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/la-crosse/577908150
It's basically a flat ride. Nice places to stop along the way. The Minnesota/Iowa side early in the morning isn't that trafficy and it's a beautiful road. The Wisconsin side on the way back in the afternoon was a little trafficy, but the shoulder is decent and I didn't ever feel in danger (although it was steaming hot that day). I really enjoyed the ride. Take the whole route or parts of it or whatever if you like.

Aye!!!! In fact, next time you're up here, we'll organize a ride around you. If you don't have a bike, I might* have one that will fit you... :p
