Haha :) You could always ride Tampa -> Daytona. I think there are some hills in between ;)

Long bridges are interesting, aren't they? The longest, and highest, I ever rode is the Bonner Bridge on the NC Outer Banks. I was staying out there and there's basically only one road, so I got to ride it twice on an out and back. The toughest part of the Bonner bridge, other than the hill, was dealing with the wind.

The longest bridge I have ever been on is the 12.9km (8.01 mile) long Confederation Bridge between New Brunswick and PEI, no cycling across but there is a shuttle, which is $4 for peds, and $8 for bikes, a lot less then the $40 for cages (fares in all cases are charged at the PEI end only).
Nice, which bridge is that and when do you plan to tackle the Skyway?

I know the feeling. If it weren't for the bridges, there would be no hills here either. The biggest bridge I've ridden is the Talmedge Bridge going into Savannah, GA on US 17.
Jax, when are you going to do the Dames Point? ;)

Gee you would LOOOOOVE it here, you can have the tiny Lee Avenue, street is about 1000m long, the first 400m or so are flat, the next 300m rise about 100m and the last 300m rise another 300m, yup that sucker is steep, forget riding, you just about need climbing gear on that sucker..... Yes a city bike route goes along it:eek:
Another one is Poplar Plains Road, not as steep, but steep enough, and quite long, a block over heading down the hill (these are one way streets) it's easy to double the 30km/h speed limit, going up you see roadies with their -5lb plastic bikes and team kit walking the second half this one. A Bike Route goes along here as well.
Bike routes are a set of signed routes where cyclists are recommended to go, the idea being to stick to relatively quiet streets and residential areas rather then high speed arterials. Clearly they were developed by traffic engineers not cyclists, because cyclists would avoid both of these steep climbs. They also have a nasty habit of ending when there is no sane way around some obstacles like a freeway, where arterials are the only streets that didn't get lopped off when the freeway was built.:(
There was a plan to build hundreds of kilometres of new bike lanes and routes, as a way to encourage more cycling and less driving as the city is drowning in traffic and motor vehicle exhaust. However the city is crying poor right now, and that gives council (all members of which are supplied city limos:mad:) a good excuse to shelve the originally to be completed by 2011 bike plan for another couple of years (I can't see it being completed before 2015 now).... As it has low priority I doubt they will complete it before I retire in 2026. They want to also cut the transit system to ribbons as well, how that's supposed to deal with the costs of heavy traffic is something most people don't seem to understand, me included.

Oooohhhhhh, someone knows their Jacksonville bridges, but unfortunately, that is a non bike\pedestrian bridge. It would be a one heck of a challenge though. The only couple of big bridges that can be ridden over are the Acosta and the Main street, everything else is an interstate or restricted to motorized vehicles.

Wow, those sure are a different kind of hill to what I have in Australia! In my town there are only about 4 bridges and they are all dead flat and about 3 cars long in length.
