I know a lot will depend on geometery, and I should ride it first etc, etc ... but what kind of ball park frame size would I be looking for in a road bike (for craigslist purposes).

I'm 5'11 - 6'0 and have a 34 inch inseam.

My current bike hasn't got the frame size written on it, and it's a mountain / hybrid kind of thing so the sizing may be different anyway? I know nothing.

Thanks!

58cm is probably close, but you really should go to a bike shop and take a few test rides. I rode for more than 20 years on 60 and 62cm frames because that's what somebody told me I needed when I was a newbie. Finally a few years ago I got a half-decent fitting and went up a couple of sizes, and it made a huge difference in comfort.

Ok - thanks. I will go to my LBS as soon as I can to figure out sizing, I just wanted a ballpark number for trolling Craigslist in the meantime.

i'm about the same size and i ride a 59 cm raleigh. there is a website that will really get you close in sizing at competitivecyclist.com.... bear in mind that the best fit will be obtained at the LBS with the help of some experienced watchful eyes.... but that website is what i used when i was looking around.... without telling the guys at the shop anything, they fit me into a bike with almost the exact same dimensions all the way around....

oh, by the way.... have fun shopping... it's great to see and try all the different bikes....

be,
