Has anyone seen a handlebar bracket for an iPod? I'm thinking they probably don't exist. 2nd question, has anyone made a braket to hold their iPod on their bike? Before you say "throw it in your jersey pocket" let me state my case.
I like to enjoy rides to get out and just enjoy the scenery. It's great, but sometimes it would be nice to have some tunes to keep the tempo going. However, I would NEVER put headphones on while riding on any road that I share with cars. I want to hear what's coming up behind me. My idea was to plug in one of those little speaker thingies on top of it so it wouldn't be louder than beyond my bike and I'd still be able to hear that runaway 18-wheeler in advance
Any ideas/input on how to fabricate something like this would be appreciated. Oh, it's a 60gig video btw.
Thanks,
Mv
First of all let me say that I wouldn't take a hard disc based MP3 player out on a bike. I know they have skip protection built in but you could still damage a HDD fairly easily and they cost a lot.
I have rigged up a Nano ipod (flash based) to a set of tiny speakers and a mop clamp. It makes enough noise to be heard but not interfere much with traffic sounds. It is small and doesn't weigh much and pops right off the bars when you want to lock up the bike. I have posted photos before so if you do a search you can find them in some other thread.

Dont be so apologetic.
I make my living teaching bicycle education and I listen to the radio while cycling.
I follow VC and I never, ever move 1 inch over in the road without scanning. I can think of no reason why anyone would need to hear a car approaching unless one thinks that they could hear the intentions of the car and make some kind of evasive action. I dont.
I listen to talk radio etc so I dont have it very loud. Besides if anything it just dulls the wind noise and I can still hear cars just fine.
Anyway, I use this for a cellphone because I have a leather saddle and bar wrap and it matched. I dont have an ipod but I bet this would work perfect if its not too short.

krusell makes a million different cases and they have a line of cases with the 'multidapt' mechanism that snaps into a bunch of different holders - the link above shows the bike mount. i own a number of their cases and mounts.
