Best studded tires ever - coming out this month?

I am talking about the Nokian Extreme 294 29"x2.1 (http://www.gazzatyres.com/ext294.html).

I've found that 700c studded tires are superior to 26" ones for winter cycling - the difference is most apparent on hard-packed snow and bumpy ice. Now, I've been using the Nokian Hakkapelitta's 700c studded tires, and while they offered much better stability than any of the 26" ones, I really felt that the low number of studs (106) was a huge disadvantage. Also, the largest Hakkapelitta's are just 47 mm (47-6 22).
The Nokian Extreme 294 29"x2.1 should be the answer to my prayers.

However...

It's september, and I haven't even smelled these tires, let alone seen them. Has anyone? Any info on where they can be bought?

The Nokian website used to list a 700c tire that was more the extreme tread pattern and had more studs than the Hak, I've never seen a pair in person (in North or South America at least). Peter White once told me he had some in stock but I'm not sure what he was smoking, I always considered them "vapor-ware". I'd love a pair.

A studded Nokian 700c that's not the Hakka, and has more studs than the Hakka? I know of no such artifact.

But you might be talking about the Hakkapelitta 240 (http://www.gazzatyres.com/w240.html)! Yeah, this is a very nice studded 700c tire, but it has 2 disadvantages compared to the Hakkapelitta 106:

It only comes in the 40 mm width, while the Hakkapelitta 106 comes in 37 and 47 mm width, which is nice.
I have not seen it ANYWHERE being actually sold/offered. You must admit that's a pretty big disadvantage.

I am awaiting with trepidation what comes out from the glorious Nokian house this month. It'll have an enormous impact on how my following winter goes.

I bought a pair on November 9th at pyorahuolto.com in Lauttasaari and I actually have another pair as well, which I have no idea where I've bought. A problem in my bookkeeping, I guess.

Thanks. They seem to have a fairly good portion of the Nokian arsenal. Will keep an eye on them, maybe they'll be among those to sell the Extreme 29er, too.

They are heavy and have a lot of rolling resistance, but the grip is good in most conditions. I had no problems staying upright all winter. My in-city average speed went from about 26 km/h in summer to around 20 km/h in winter as a result of snow, ice and the studded tires. The narrow profile is only a problem in deep snow, which usually lasts only for some hours after snowfall until it gets plowed.

As far as the 700 being superios to the 26 I feel that is a matter of individualism. I'm a mountain biker, not a road rider, and I am way more comfortable on a sandy bumpy decent at high speeds than I am on a flat paved surface at the same speed. After all these years I still have better control in the mud and gunk than on my daily commute on the street. So for me the 26x1.95 studded tires I run on my mountain bike in the snow and ice offer me way more control and power than when I tried 700x32(?) os the same brand tire on my old commuting bike.
But then again... I don't live in Finland. ;)
