BMX - BMX Racing.

I always get into different types of biking. Freestyle, Mountain Biking, DJ's. But like i used to BMX Race a bit on my friend's bike. I really liked it, and he is getting back into racing. I think i may start do it with some extra money. Can anyone reccomend some bikes for $350 or lower? Here is one i really like, http://www.danscomp.com/101694.php?cat=BIKES

The bike you linked is not a bad complete race bike and it has one of the longest top tubes of the Expert sized bikes so it will probably fit you a little longer. One thing you will want to consider is what your local track(s) is like, if it is usually dry then this bike will be fine. The Intense bikes come with the Micro Knobby tires, they are good tires for a hard packed track but one a muddy track they get really slick. Tires are pretty cheap but if you are on a tight budget you may want to consider ones with a more aggressive tread. You may want to look at JR bikes ( https://www.jrbicycles.com/ ), they have pretty good prices and selection.

I race those intense tires in a 24x1.75. They haven't given me any problems yet.

I race an Intense Pro 24 Cruiser. I am 6'1" 205 lbs. The Intense bikes come right out of the box with some very good components and are very reasonably priced. I think you have a good choice on your hands there. Have fun man.

Intense tyres are some of the best I've ran on my DH rigs, they wear down fast but the go like they're on rails.

Yea, it's never wet. But would that be worth the money. I would need to get pant's i think unless my old ones still fit, maybe clipless?? And i would like the Oddsey seat with the different colored checkers for $18, i forget the name.

Also would the Expert XL fit me, im 5 ft and 85 pounds? Could i also grow into it.

An expert frame should fit you unless you are oddly proportioned and most have a weight limit around 125 lbs so you could use it for a while.
Just wear jeans to start and ride flats until you are comfortable on the bike. Clipless will set you back quite a few bucks as you need the pedals and shoes. Changing the seat on an expert race bike is not money well spent as you would rarely sit on the thing and it will add weight to the bike as the seat and post these bikes come with is very light. If you do change the seat you would need a new seat post as the stock seat and post on the smaller bikes are riveted together, there is no clamp on the post.

By the way, you should check the rider sizing chart on Dan's Comp.

According to the charts you are in the middle of the Expert range, you should not have to grow into this bike.
Keep in mind that these charts are just guidelines, you really should try a few bikes if you can so that you are sure you are making the right choice. You will notice that the Expert frame size in the sizing chart indicates an 18.5"-19.5" top tube and the bike you linked indicates a 20", the Intense Expert appears to be a large Expert frame.

The Intense Expert XL is a GREAT starting race bike for anyone. It has pretty good parts on it, it's a great frame and it looks nice. That would fit you perfect. I'm the same height and about the same weight as you and I ride a 20" TT and it fits me perfect. Go to www.jrbicycles.com (http://www.jrbicycles.com) for racing stuff. It's better than Dan's for racing.

Jrbicycles's is so EXPENSIVE. I was looking at it. I was also looking at the GT? Do you think the intense is better then the GT. Yea so i decided not to get the seat. But what i need now sincei have pant's and jersey. Full Face, The pads for the frame, and headset thing, and a plate and the bike.

Bump, i really would like to know this if any racer's could help, as in Minichamp31 and some others. I would want to add in for the bike's also a helmet, number plate, and the pad's for the toptube, bar's, and stem. The helmet is like $70 the Fly Venom, and the Number Plate is the Dan's Comp one for $6 and the pad's are like $15-$20. So it was around $420 shipped for the intense, and $430 shipped for the GT? So which should i get.

Yeah, I think the Intense is better. And the GT Powerseries Pro has a 20" TT like the Expert XL I think.

And Felt makes some really good bikes, but they're too big for me...

I wouldn't get either of those bikes. The Expert XL is wayyy too light and the weight limit on the forks is only 100 and the rims have a small weight limit and the junior is just too small.

Just go with the Intense Expert XL, and the other stuff you're ordering is fine. There's not much stuff you need to get with the bike, unless you want to spend a lot of money on cassette hubs. But for starting out, again, it's fine.

Yea i was sort-of of thinking that too. EEEH I really need help deciding. I always get bike's and get bored of them haha. But yea is spending $400 to race once a week a good deal? Hmm maybe twice, hopefully if my 2 bestfriends start again. I have like $940, but i don't know if i want to waste it yet.

They're basically just to help you so if you hit your bars or stem or slip a pedal and fall on your toptube. Mine don't really help with the last one though, as it's really thin and small. But you're supposed to have them on your bike when you race but a lot of people don't.

Yeah, they're basically useless. But depending on the track, the rules require them.
Plus the right set makes your bike scream BMX!!!

you don't need pads on your bike... the rules changed a few years ago. don't waste your money, they dont do anything for you anyway.

oh, and i would get the intense... best complete for the price. it will fit you well.
