Hello, came across this forum by accident. I just purchased my first road bike; I have been riding a Trek hybrid. I haven't ridden a road bike for 35 years so I'm not sure if I still can. I have been riding about 100 to 125 miles a week on my hybrid and hope the road bike makes it a little easier. So far I find that it hurts my upper back but hoping after I get use to it that it will strengthen.

Hello cls1108, it may take a little time, but you will probably find that the drop bars help eventually.

What bike did you get yourself?

Welcome to BF!

What part of Indiana are you from? There's a lot of us on the boards.

I purchased a Giant ocrcw. So far I find that it is easier to ride, especially in the wind. Like I said before the only problem I have with it is that my left upper back hurts. I some times I switch back to my hybrid if it hurts too much. I'm hoping to do my first century at the end of the month.

Welcome aboard! Good to see another Hoosier on the boards!

I'm up in Lafayette, by the way ;)

Hey HOOSIERS! Here I sit in lowly Menlo Park, California, longing for some Indiana September corn rides! I grew up in Zionsville in the 60s (built a lot of fence in and around that little burg with my grand-pa Gus which has been mostly replaced by asphalt). During highschool in the summer I road to work every day from Zville to Lebanon which became my foundation for the next 30 years. Oh man I miss those grids in the counties through the corn, beans, and flat farmland. And the HEAT AND HUMIDITY!

Then I was at Purdue for ten years studying, teaching, working at the Journal and Courier, the Klein Brot Haus, while continuing to ride ride ride! Miss the ride from West Laughalot to Delphi (imagine little traffic on 25 at that time - great cruise). Heck, any ride within 20 miles of West Lafayette was great, so many interesting towns, farms, wooded stretches.

Also dated someone at UofI and THAT was an amazing weekend trip, especially getting out past Attica and Williamsport - magical.

I had a nice corncob freewheel back then which I miss. I moved to Boulder after Indiana and it had a strong biking community. And the rides are total quad burns - I had to give up the narrow band-width freewheel. Now I'm in an area with great all season weather and some gorgeous rides (where my wife and I tandem), but the traffic is awful. I'm happy to say I still bike commute everyday, as I have since highschool in Indiana.

Thanks for posting you guys, really warmed my heart this morning. Say hello to Tecumseh for me next time you see him.

(BTW, nice avatar Stormcrowe...)
