Fifty Plus (50+) - My Ti frame triple broke at a weld

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Fortunately, I can limp along with my steel-is-real bi-focals and my plastic fantastic single-vision sunnys.
Optician says I only need a top frame, about half the price of a full frame. And the new top frame should be in by Friday.

Saturday, I was hiking with a friend who was using Leki Titanium Trekking poles. On a steep, downhill grade, one of the poles snapped right in the middle and he was lucky not to have been hurt. They have a lifetime guarantee, but still.....

They have a lifetime guarantee, but still..... With lifetime guarantees, one must always ask, "whose lifetime?"
My Ti driver cracked.
Must have been the tremendous swing speed that I generate at 60+.:D

And I was concerned about so-called "catastrophic failure" with my OCLV carbon frame -- looks like Ti is the material we should all be worried about!

Moderator, we don't need no stinkin' moderator!!
(with apologies to fans of a classic film, "Treasure of the Sierra Madre")
On a serious note if you have not tried Titanium framed glasses you should. I am very hard on frames (I don't wear them all the time so you know what happens) and I have had my Titanium frames for over 3 years, a record. If I bend them (hard to do) I just bend them back.
My Ti glasses frame snapped at the bridge the day before I was scheduled to leave for vacation. My prescription was too old to get anyone to fill it. I had to finagle an appointment to get my vision checked and get a set of glasses, all in one day. It is doable but not fun.
The reason I got the Ti frames last time was because they showed me how flexible they were and how they would not break like steel ones. Ha. Well, they did last 5 years so I can't really complain but they broke where there is no way to fix them - in the middle of the bridge. It's just a single thin piece of metal there and there is no glue surface to speak of.

No welding, Ti or other, can be done (properly) with oxygen present.
