I'm not saying there were parallels, but the whole fantasy setting with kingdoms and magic and fencing... yeah, there were similarities. Heck, at the beginning I even mistook Humphrey for Cary Elwes :D

However, it was altogether a very different movie, and definitely the most charming one I've seen all year.

Mrs Z and I wanted to see that, but they're only showing it as a matinee - which doesn't work well with either of our schedules. :(

Man, the book was so much better than the movie. And the movie was awesome.

1. Claire Danes = HAWT.

2. I don't know why Robert De Niro wasted all that time on drama when he's such a gifted comedic actor, as well.

3. Neil Gaiman rules.

Good movie.

That wasn't magic, it was a miracle. :D

NOT a chick flick! It's a fairy tale adventure plot of good versus evil, several characters in an ensemble cast determined to capture the star for their own purposes!

But I did cry at the end :(

I saw it opening weekend with my girlfriend while I was down in FL. It was a fun movie, but nothing like Princess Bride. If you want to compare it to other movies, try "Big Fish" or "The Adventures of Baron Muchhausen". They are much closer style movies.
