It looks like I could be in Gainesville, FL soon (maybe this weekend for the next two weeks) and was wondering if anyone is within an hour or two of there and wanted to set up a ride. I think I have a bike I can borrow and a car to meet up. I'm looking for a road ride, 30-50 miles at about 15-17 mph. It's been a while since I've been on a bike but I think I can jump right into doing that. Let me know. Jax is good, Tampa is good, but preferably not much further than that.

The GCC has a number of rides every weekend. You can probably find the ride you're looking for advertised on their listserv:

Looks out of my league. They are talking about 20-30 mph with one stop over 50 miles and they just drop you if you are slower. Thanks for the info though. I'll keep looking.

There are multiple rides. Look at the strays, high-bees, and lo-bees.

Thanks. I emailed the LoBees group. It will be an easy ride but nice just to get back on a bike. Now I just have to talk my buddy into letting me borrow his Scott....

If I was to do only one 50 mile loop in the Gainesville area I would do this one:

The "off road" part is on the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail. I started the ride in downtown Gainesville because I don't know where you would be starting from. I ride these roads all the time by myself and they are suitable for that kind of riding.

The Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail is also very nice for solo riding up to 20 mph average speed except on weekend mornings when it can get a bit too crowded. 15 to 17 mph is always safe on the Trail. It is too narrow for true group riding.
