RIDE DESCRIPTION
We have a mid-western Fooster (Aprilm) visiting us so it’s up to us to show this young lady a fine time and introduce her to SoCal riding!

This is an out-and-back social ride from Playa del Rey to Palos Verdes. We’ll ride along the South Bay beach bike path up and around Marina del Rey, then come back down to the peninsula. We’ll ride along the PV bluffs and see some stunning ocean views, then climb to the top of Crest Road, which overlooks the L.A. Harbor. Then it’s back the way we came and end up chowing down Mexican food and sipping margharitas.

NEWCOMERS WELCOME!
This is a great trip for BF newcomers. If you’ve never joined us on a BF ride, please come out and introduce yourselves. We’ll gab a lot, take pics, eat food and have a fun ride. And since it’s on a Sunday, it should be a nice recovery ride for you KOM types! Please take note the pace/skill level section below.

PACE/SKILL LEVEL
This is an easy ride compared to most BF events, but this is NOT a beginner’s ride. It is NOT a no-drop ride. You should be able to ride 50 miles comfortably and have group riding skills. You will have to share the lane/merge with traffic (at speed) in several areas, navigate through pedestrian/beach traffic, ride single file while maintaining pace, know group hand signals, and watch out for the safety of those around you. Please be cognizant of your own skill level before committing to this ride.

If you have doubts, please do not sign up for this ride. It is not safe for beginners to ride in such a massive group, considering PV’s limited road/path space and merging traffic. And it simply isn’t fair to the ride organizers, to the people who are able keep up with the stated pace, or even to other cyclists on the road who may have to navigate around you. Should you decide this ride may be too much, you are more than welcome to join us at Pancho’s for our post-ride eats, and we will undoubtedly welcome you with big smiles and lots of chips n’ salsa.

No hammering. If you sprint away from the pack, we won’t chase you. And if you’re unfamiliar with the area and get lost, it’ll be your own fault.

ROUTE SLIPS
The routeslip is posted. We will have to break up into smaller groups to ease traffic difficulties and regroup at points along the way. Please read the routeslip carefully.

CLIMBING
There is only one significant climb on this ride. We will go up PV East and Crest Road, which will have 4-8% grades for about 4 miles. If you don’t have a lot of experience in climbing, take it slow, stay within yourself and you should do fine. In addition, there will be quite a few “small hills” and rollers to deal with.

*** For those of you who want to stretch your legs a bit, there is an optional climb up Ganado Street (18%+). Anyone who does repeats will get a prize: All the chips and salsa you can eat at Pancho’s!

So.... who’s in?

If I'm in town I'm in but, we're suppose to be on a cruise just don't know the dates yet. And I know you all are great company and fun but I'll just ride one way. I can't see driving to Marina del Rey to ride back towards my house. So I'll ride there then ride back. Hopefully.

Well, you're welcome to hammer all you want. I plan to ride with aprilm. And since she's our guest, I told her she could draft off of anyone she wants, and she told me she wants to draft off of M.E. And M.E. generally likes to draft off of Joy. So I guess I'm riding with M.E. and Joy, too.

Honestly, Ronjon. Anyone is welcome to hammer and ride away. But I'm not chasing anyone down and if they get lost, they're on their own. :p:rolleyes:

(BTW, if anyone needs a testosterone fix, save it until Forrestal/Ganado. You can all race to the top!)

Climb with me, April. I go up slow and steady and enjoy the views. You're going to have a blast! And Jason will willingly climb up with you too. He helped get me up to the ski lifts a little over a week ago and has no problem going up at any speed. :)

April, I agree with M.E. that you should enjoy the gorgeous views on this ride. And I'll stick with you, even on the big PV hill. Training rides are for trying to improve one's riding. Social rides--and I'm definitely treating this ride as a social ride--I definitely won't complain about chasing a Cutie Roadie around all day. :D Besides, from our conversations, I suspect you're sandbagging a bit about your climbing ability. I think you'll do just fine as long as you pace yourself gently and don't go powering up the earlier inclines and the lower portion of the main climb.

M.E. is wrong when she says I have no problem climbing at any speed. Chasing back up to her near the top of the climb to the Baldy ski lift was one of the more painful climbing efforts I've made in quite a while. I did my best to hide that fact, though. When possible, the painful efforts should look effortless when Cutie Roadies are watching.

Hmm... just saw this...

I'd rather let my fingers do the talking. Just sayin'. ;)

I thought that's my job.

You do realize that a Ganado repeat did this to Jason:

And that was without the Forrestal prelude.

But feel free to give it a try. In fact, first single guy to repeat and get to the top of Crest gets the Podium Girl photo... if ME is willing, of course. :p
