Mountain Biking - fork suggestion

hi all..

i am quite new on MTB, i ride a 01 giant NRS1 xtc, currently using a old fork 01 rockshox jett, recently i find out my front fork has lots of flex and play... i think is time for me to upgrade my fork.

i weight 140lbs and ride aggressive xc & urban, some of my friends strongly advice me to get a 03 fox float 100 RLC but US$420(HKD$3280) is definitely out of my budget.

i think i will look for a 2nd hand fork and i looking for some expert advice from you guys...

btw, my bike weight around 30lbs and would like to reduce some weight when i buy a 2nd fork... i want standard ISO disc mount instead of those manitou strange disc mount.

I know you said you don't like Manitou's post mounts, but why? A simple adapter and you can run ISO disc calipers. Here's a good buy on a good fork.

I bought an NRS frame a while back, and built it up with the parts from my old bike, and have been replacing them one at a time. I just replaced the fork(an old RS Jett) with a new Marzocchi MX Pro that I managed to get for $299. Great fork, atleast compared to that crappy old Jett. You can get the MX Comp ETA for about $269 or so, and that would be a great buy also. Thats actually the fork I would have gotten except I managed to find the Pro for only 30 bucks more, so how could I not do it. Check out the reviews on it at MTBR, they are all excelent.

the frame was brought 2nd hand and my fork was transfer from my old bike.

i won't like to use a disc adaptor because it will make the capiler not as strong as standard disc mount.

a month ago, i have a friend wish to sell his 02 Sid ti @ US$202...
but i heard rockxxxx reliability problems...

except marzocchi mx pro and rockshox... any other choice?

Speaking from experience, the NRS would be happiest with an 80 mm travel frok on it. 100 will work "okay" but the handling will be strange.

I ran 1 Marzocchi X-fly on my '01 nrs air and a Marathon S on my '02 air.

I have a Black Super Air on my hardtail, and the adjustable travel might be just the ticket for your ride and style.

yea the 100mm of travel isnt too bad on it, but I definately wouldnt want to go with any more than that.

so do you guys has any good recommendation on 01 or 02 fork @ 80mm travel with disc mount? which brand & model is durable around 3.5lbs?

btw, i am thinking to add up a few spacers between steer tube and stem, i finding myself have shoulder sore since i am leaning too forward. i have longer legs and short torso. (my height is 173cm) would it be a good idea too add more spacers or change a shorter stem with more angle on it? will my bike steer different when having a shorter stem? what is the effect of a shorter stem and a long stem? will my bike steer different?

today, i came across my lbs and i found a fork. is marzocchi EXR. Does anyone has ride this fork b4? i search marzoochi website and couldn't found specification about it. Is white color with 2 adjust knob on the crown and asking for US$119(HKD$1000) only. There is another marzochhi EXR comp which is black color but without any adjust knob is asking US$119.

Anyone know the detail about both fork? any information are welcome.

They're not bad, but if you can afford the MXComp or MXPro they are definitely better.

Does the EXR come with compression and rebound setting?

The Fox Forx are a sweet ride. I have a Float RL and with out a doubt it is the smoothest feeling fork i have ever toyed with coil or air sprung. Your friends are right it is a VERY sweet ride

No...only preload

If you ride XC and Urban take a look at the Marzocchi DJ series. I know DJ stands for dirt jumping but many urabn riders that I know love the dj1 and dj2. Dj3 is okay and not as expensive.
