Thanks everyone for the complements for the Labor Day ride. I took lot of pride knowing it was enjoyable for those that were able to make it. I would like to make this a tradition, to have a NorCal BF ride, once a month.

So who's going to step up to the plate and lead a ride that is not in the peninsula or south bay. I don't mind doing it again, but I want to give other folks the opportunity.

I'd love to do a Marin ride with BF. I have the route sheet from the Marin metric. Problem is, I'm having less and less time to ride (baby due in two weeks or less). Maybe I can fax the route to someone else to host and I can be their back-up.

Cantdrv55: congratz on the baby. We just had our little one back in Feb. :D you'll be missing a lot of riding when its born but well worth it. ;)

Thanks O o! It's our second boy. Our first is 17 years old. Can you say, "Surprise"?! Very happy though since we've been trying forever for baby #2.

I'd love to do a ride over the bridge and up Mt. Tam!

I don't know Mt. Tam area that well. I think doing the bridge would be nice, but with a large group, it can be a bit dicey going on the bridge, especially when trying to negotiate that turn at the trestle ... it can be dangerous if they have those rental bikes going on too. I'd rather have it start on the other side of the bridge.

IF we do a ride in Marin or some place other outside the Peninsula, and IF I can make it, I can take 2-3 other riders.

Congrats! My wife is also due very soon (Sept 21) so I have to be careful on my schedule for this month.

I wouldn't mind leading up a ride, Mikes bikes Sausalito, Fairfax (off the main road route), up to alpine dam, backside of Tam and down the front.
October sounds great. I'll just throw a date out, How's the 6th of October?

I am up for this one. Mt. Tam is a good ride. There's also the Tiburon loop (40 miles rt) or ride into San Rafael (60 miles rt). Time to go train some more, legs are still hurting from Monday.

That's also Fleetweek. We might able to catch the Blue Angels on the bridge.

We've been aiming for end-of-month for the group ride. 10/6 might be too close to the Coast Century.
how about 10/27 or 28?

If we start early (before 9), it may not be too bad. The tourists are usually not up that early. Coming back in the afternoon, that is a different story.

great ideas. I'm in, I'm goingto start from th SF zoo, and through the Golden Gate park and Presidio to meet you guys across the bridge. Mnt Tam would be great. That might actually give me enough time this year to do all 3.

Oct. 27th Would be fine with me. We would start at Mikes Bikes. I'm done with the bridge, with vertigo and a couple of really bad experiences, I'm driving, great spot for parking can give directions, 2 blocks from Mikes Bikes right off 101. If some want to meet up in SF that would be fine. 10am start, around 55 miles.

Get the Bianchi, if it fits. A celeste one would even be a sweeter deal.
If not get cyclocross bike so you can give cyclo-cross a try.

A month is more then enough time to get in shape for a 55 mile ride. All ya gotta do is start riding a few times a week including a 3 hour ride once a week. The problem is something else always comes up. So get out and ride, figure out some routes that allow you to keep pedaling the entire time. One hour rides should be easy to route a non-stop route. Ya dont have to race, just ride.

Most of the rides have bail-out options, so dont be intimidated by distance. I find the group rides to be far easier then my own solo rides. Lots of rest time, talking while riding usually dictates a slower pace. Both of the BF rides Ive done have been great. Riders of all levels, you wont be alone.

So quit making excuses and show up for a change, it might be fun.:p

With the amount of hills in SF, you'll learn to embrace them. :D:D Try this if you want some hill training. Take the bike trail on Great Highway, go south pass the zoo , Lake Merced and go up skyline. There's about 2 miles of steady climb and not too steep.

We usually take that road down to 92 and 280. sucky part is people drive like crap out there, especially when there's fog. But once you get to the second light, you can go into the side streets and skip the section where 1 and 280 split, pretty dangerous there.

well, I can actually climb hills I'm just not that fast at doing them and lack the endurance needed for most long climbs. So I need to do a lot of work on my climbing skills. :o

I live around 47th Ave next to Cabrillo st so I tend to shoot up Cabrillo to 33rd Ave then over to the Legion of Honor Museum on some of my rides. Mainly when I have to make a run for the Butcher shop on 25th and Clement... typically those are short climbs compared to climbing up something like Mt Tam or other nice rides.

I will give the route you just suggested a try :) … I really need something different for a change. Especially if it helps me build up my noodle legs :D .

Normally I just ride from my house on 47th over to MLK Dr. Up MLK Dr to Transverse Dr. then c Transv to Middle Dr W , ride down Middle Dr W to MLK .. mLK over to 41st .. shoot across 41st down to Vicente . Vicente to 42nd , 42 to Sloat , Sloat to the Old Great High way , the one that runs Parallel to 48th + La Playa st. Then back up to MLK and repeat 3-4 times depending on how much time I can break free to actually ride.

I'm actually really liking the speed on the road. Going to the east bay in like a few minutes.

I am interested. Mike's to Fairfax, then up Fairfax-Bolinas Rd to Alpine Dam, up to the Seven Sisters, and down from the 4 Corners (with an optional summit of Mt. Tam). That is a pretty tough ride, but the scenery is amazing and there is very little traffic for most of it.

I propose:

Hey, that's all flat. just kidding, my parents lives right by the zoo/ocean beach, that's wher I usually start.

Try this, this is what I did to get in better climbing shape. Go up 25th ave, into Presidio, ride by Baker beach and up hill to GG bridge. That's a pretty short climb, then continue on Lincoln and head towards the Officers club in Presidio. Go up hill to Arguello Gate and exit the Presidio at Arguello. 2 nice, but not too long climbs, with plenty of rest/flat in between. Make a right on lake, head to 25th ave, and repeat.
