View Full Version : What bike do you train on and what do you race on?
Maybe you have a roadie that you train on and a tri bike you race on. Maybe you just swap out the wheels, or maybe you ride the same setup for race and training. What's everyone doing?

I train/race on the same bike and setup for the most part. However i do have 2 other bikes i regularly ride. I generally count every ride as a training ride.

I train mostly on my roadie, then I switch to my tri bike maybe a month/6 weeks before the race.
Though I also log a lot of miles on my fixie

This sounds a lot like me.
I train on my road bike and two weeks before a race I switch to my tri bike.

I train and race on the same bike. I change out the wheels the day before the race and test ride it.

all i have is a road bike with aero-bars. i take the aero-bars off when i do rides with other people and it seems to work ok for now.
im gonna be looking into picking up a Leader 735TT frame to slowly build up (read: piece by piece, paycheck by paycheck) over the rainy season. then the roadie will return to its normal duty.
I ride and race on the same bike. I bought a QR Kilo in May and have ridden it exclusively ever since. I do have a 15 year old road bike that will be my ride to work when my tri season is over. I needed as much time as possible on my new bike to get used to the position and build up my back muscles for it. I also enjoy riding it more as it fits better and is much faster. Plus its 15 years newer.
Train on the road bike and swap out onto the TT rig within the week prior to to race.
Hopefully finishing building my Fixie conversion this weekend and plan on getting in a bit of off season riding on that also.
Train and race on same bike: '69 Peugeot U08 with old-school Scott aero bars. (updated alloy wheels, though!)

Group rides, off-season, and early season I'm on the Soloist. I didn't spend enough time on the Lucero (tri bike) prior to my 3/4 Iron in early June and wasn't quite comfortable. I spent all of July's build phase and August's taper on the Lucero before IMC.

I train and race on my TT bike but break it up once a month to go for a nice ride on my touring bike.
