Touring - Availability of Trek 520 in Europe

I should like to acquire a Trek 520, but my local dealer informs me that that model is not available here in Spain. He also tells me they are not sold in Holland. Does anyone know where I could get one? Are they sold anywhere in Europe? What about the UK?

I live in Switzerland and had similar problems finding the Trek 520. I was told by one shop that the bike is unavailable in Europe, but I once saw it advertised on evanscycles.com (http://www.evanscycles.com/) (from the UK) for £899.99. For that price you could fly to the USA and buy it there, which is what I ended up doing during a vacation there.

Strange if it's not available on continental Europe; it is available in the UK at around the £900 price range:

Nine hundred pounds! That's about 1,300 euros or 1,800 dollars... It sounds like it might be worth my while to wait until I take one of my infrequent trips to the States.

Trek 520 is utterly, completely inferior to Kogo Miyata sold in The Netherlands. Kogo is a tourer's dream bike. More expensive than Trek, but the bicycle has everything you can imagine, so no need to add or change any components.
Trek 520 is a primitive bicycle and imho, it is just not worth the money.

Why get an American tourer when you're in Europe? Does it have something you can find on a Euro tourer?

It's much, much cheaper than that at the stores. When I added the purchase price of my Trek 520 (2007) + flying it to The Netherlands as cargo + change the crankset for loaded touring + front rack + rear rack (flimsy as a tooth pick) + lights + saddle + computer + tires (impossible to have them seated properly on a long tour if you don't have the heavy tools), it was more than the price of a Miyata. I was touring in The Netherlands two months ago and when I saw the Miyata, I wanted to kick myself for having bought the Trek.
After 6 months on the road and a lot of money spent on buying/replacing parts, I have decided that Trek 520 is made for credit card touring.

Check out these guys, I hear they make some of the best touring bikes out, and have been tested many times over. All over the world.
