I ride a 2006 Giant Cypress SX with 700x40c tires. I'm planning to get Continental Gatorskins to improve road and puncture resistance (first flat last night).

One LBS told me that narrowest tire that will fit on my rims is 700x28, another LBS recommended a different size.

Is there a way to determine that myself? Is there a marking on the rim that tells me the range of tire size that will fit? (I'm not at home to look at it now.) I'd like to order on-line ASAP.

Hi Yen, I just bought a Giant for my grandson and it had 38mm tires on it and they told me at the shop that the smallest I could go, was 35mm. They could be wrong as well. I think if you call biketiresdirect.com, they should be able to give you the right size. That's who I buy all my tires from, good luck.

Thanks George, that's a good idea.
We looked on the rim and it says 622-13. According to Sheldon's site a 28mm tire should fit, but I'll talk to them at biketiresdirect.com as you suggested to be sure. I hope your grandson enjoys his bike, what a nice gift to give him.
