I got some SKS commuter fenders (bike has eyelets), but my brakes have too little clearance for them. Should I trim the fenders or get new brakes?

It is a 90's era steel Specialized Allez Sport with Shimano "RSX" componentry. The fork has clearance. the brakes are dual pivot side-pull center-mounted caliper like this:

You are stuck with this brake type since they have the proper reach and mounting method. Trim the fenders to miss the brake arches.

Thanks, will I run a risk of weakening the fenders?
