Bicycle Mechanics - Best grease?

I'm 1/2 way through my last tube of Finish Line grease (http://www.finishlineusa.com/products/fortified-grease.htm) and was thinking about exploring the posibility of finding something better.
Can anyone recommend a grease that you'd say is better Finish Line's teflon stuff?

The best grease for me is cheap grease. I'm 1/2 way through a tub of Castrol. Works great.

auto grease? never thought of that. beats the "L" out of paying 10 bucks for a small tube. what weight do you use/recommend?

I use Boat Trailer wheel bearing grease... Seems to work great.. 5 bucks for a tub of it and it is also water repellant...

I always thought / was told that auto grease had an undesireably high viscosity, so much that it causes unwanted resistance (grease "drag") when used on bike parts...

Depends on what you're doing. For regular greasing of bearings, a tub of cheap Castrol grease is fine.

For installing seatposts, stems, handlebars, etc, you want to use Tacx Carbon assembly compound or a generic equivalent. Yes, you should always grease the seatpost, whether carbon, aluminum, or steel.

Would you use Tacx compound on things like screwing in a bb, mounting cranks, etc?

I'd use Tacx or equivalent for square-taper cranks, but probably not for threads. The whole point is that it creates super friction when compressed, so less torque is needed to tighten two parts together. Of course you should always use a torque wrench and a torque chart for every bolt on the bike.

I used white lithium ever since I started working on bikes and read in Bike Magazine's book that it is just as good as the overpriced bike stuff. I see no reason to change.

Sure, white lithium is great. It's not going to perform like Tacx on a seatpost since it doesn't have the same chemical properties, but it's a fine grease for non-assembly purposes.

I like white grease cause its easier to tell if its dirty.

I like dark grease because it stays good looking long after it isn't.

Bacon grease, it's free. Smells good too.

Park Tool white grease. thats what i use, but i dont know how much it is because i always use my friends.

I like whatever grease I happen to have at the time. I think gear bearing grease works great.
