Hello,

I recently bought a new Cannondale with a Dura Ace rear derailleur. This is hard for me to explain so please bear with me.

When I pick up the bike and spin the rear tire, the pedals spin along with it. I picked up my old bike and this did not happen. I'm figuring that this is not normal and actually prohibits me from coasting as freely as I otherwise could.

Is this something I should try and fix? If so, any tips on how I could do this myself or should I just take it to a LBS?

Thanks for any help!

Seeing that the bike is brand new are you spinning the wheel backwards? If you are then the pedals should turn. But not if your spinning the wheel fowards.
It's the only thing I can think of so I will bump this to the top. Does anybody have a solution.

You mentioned your rear derailleur, but that has nothing to with what's going on. Do you have a DuraAce rear hub as well, and I assume that's new? The cause is a little resistance within the freehub mechanism. I'd suggest you ride for a couple hundred miles or so and check again.

Yes, I concur. (Just got done watching Catch Me If You Can). As the new rear hub breaks in, you will see that friction disappear.
