Ok brainy ones, I've done the research, found out why my Ergo levers don't shift right, discovered that I can probably repair it myself, and found instructions on how to do it. The problem is whether currently available campy spare parts will fit my older levers.
My shifters are '98 Campy Athena 9spd. In 98 Campy had 2 hood designs, and the Athena shifters kept the older pointy hoods. In 1999, everything went to the round hood style used today, so 1999 is a bit of a dividing line for parts availability & compatibility within campy's line.
I need to replace the Index Springs (G springs), and it looks like those parts are available and will fit fine. But I thought that, while I have the shifter's apart, I may as well replace some other pieces that are known to be wear-or-breakage prone. The problem is, I'm not sure if parts from 1999 or later, which are available from Airbomb or Branford bike, will fit in these 1998 shifters.
These parts are:
Index Spring carrier (campy part number EC-RE111); more recent versions of this part have are numbered 5-EC-RE111. But campy used EC-RE111 as the part number for many years on different 9 & 10 speed ergo shifters.
Right Coil Spring: 1998 Athena Part, EC-RE054; 1998 Chorus & Record Ergo, and all subsequent Ergo have EC-RE054 as the *left* Coil Spring, and EC-RE055 as the right coil.
EC-RE057: Bushing for the index spring carrier.
I suppose I could also upgrade this shifter to more modern 9 speed or even 10, but right now, I'd like to just get it working. The shifters are in practically pristine condition.
Will 1999 or newer parts (listed above), work in a 1998 pointy hood athena 9spd shifter, and if so, what modifications or special instructions do I need to know to make it work.
Thanks,
Rich
