Bicycle Mechanics - Maximum Tubular tire width on tubular rim

Just wondering...

I have a set of tubulars that appear to fit between a 23-28 (max) tubular tire.

I have a set of 700c 35 clinchers and the width is obviously bigger than my road clinchers...

I'm looking at this in comparison to my tubular set and am thinking there is no way that I can fit a 30-32 tubular tire on my tubular rims...

Am I wrong?

Does anyone even make a 30-32mm sew up? Dugast has a 28mm sew up for over $200, but thats the widest I've seen.

Are we talking about road ones or ciclocross ones?

I dont think u'll have any problems putting a 28 mms tubular in a regular rim like a mavic gp4 for example. As long as the the tape is super glued to the rim i really doubt you should have problems at all.

Tufo ciclocross tubulars are 30 mms i believe.

Ok, there are some pretty large tubular cyclocross tires. I have a set of 32s from Challenger that I bought to convert my Woodrup to a snow bike - silly idea, really! I think when I was looking I saw some 28 mm or 30 mm diamond tread tubulars on Ebay, touted as a hard-surface cross tire. I bougt my Challengers from Schwab Cycles in Denver. They seem to specialize in competitive cycling (God knows how I got there!), and have a 'cross product line.

In ancient times there were teh Hutchinson Sprint and the Clement Elvezia, around 400 grams each. I had a set of Hutchinsons on 28 hole Nisi rims. I'm glad I can't find any now, I recall they were seen as poor.

I've never seen an extra-wide extra-strength tubular rim. I think these big cross tires are intended for standard tubular rims in 36 hole lacings. I think you just have to glue them good.

I did not like the ride. Tires are available for what I paid, which was a real deep discount. They have about 1 mile of pavement riding on them.
