While visiting my in-laws in New Mexico I did a little fishing in their pond. I managed to pull this guy out of the drink. Biggest bluegill I've ever caught. He was right at 9 1/2 long. I didn't have a weight scale handy.

Dang, I bet you felt like you'd caught a whale! Bluegills are scrappers! I love catching them on ultralight fly tackle!

Bluegill are great fun on ultralight set ups. That's what I was using and yes I thought a whale hit my lure.

- good catch!
- if all 'gill were that size they'd be more popular than bucketmouths!
p.s. caught what i considered a Virginia state record 'gill while fishing in an impoundment on Quantico MCB in the early 90s... to give you an idea of its size, the fish had an open mouth the size of a half dollar... landed it on a #12 grey gnat wet using a 5-weight rod, then promptly let it go (i always use crimped barbs)...
hai, i can haz bass?! mkay, thx!
cool, i got a bass!!!!!!
And dude, you look exactly like my cousin!

I'm slightly surprised nobody has started a "Post your pic with a fish" thread yet.

That isn't a big blue gill. I've seen them up to 9" high and 15" long and 1.5" wide.

I released everything I caught. Those little bass were a hoot on an ultralight set up.

Nice bait. :D
I was fishing the Rio Frio down here when a tarpon rolled about 20 yards up stream. Sheesh - some of the tarpon in the Rio Frio are 200 lbs...
no, I am not, but Courtney is in Ireland now working for Dell and is single, so if it is him, he is lying to someone.
