Well, I seem to be stuck in a rut but at least it's a good rut. A few folks have already commited to riding from Red Box again this Saturday at 8am sharp, so I thought I would run this up and see who salutes. The destination this time is Grassy Hollow, however there are many options to make it longer or shorter which ever you choose. The Grassy Hollow out and back is 76 miles on Angeles Crest with about 8k of climbing. It's a 3 bottle ride and you need a $5 Adventure Pass available at the Shell Station on Foothill and the 2 ,or here http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardino/ap/vendors.php. It's about 15 miles and it takes about 30 minutes to get to Red Box from the 210 and A.C. It should be a beautiful day up there as always. Join us. :)

Are you saying you're now so fast you'll be done w/ the ride before I can even start?

She left home one day, in a relative way
And returned on the previous night."

Nope, I'm just in a different time zone.
Did the water supply at Grassy Hollow get decontaminated??

Technically, it wasn't contaminated. They had just bleached it so if you didn't mind the taste of bleach, there was all the water you wanted.
But, I do prefer Wrightwood as they have stores where you can get whatever you want, like Hostess Cupcakes.

Well that's good to know. I can just imagine what kind of effects bleach would have on my digestive system. I presume the bleach has been leached by this point as many trips as Bob and others have made thru there recently, so maybe this requires some serious consideration.

Oh yeah, it should be fine. That was many weeks ago and I heard you are supposed to flush it for 48 hours. We obviously caught it before that 48 hour mark. Based on the taste, I would say we caught it at hour 10.

The water at Grassy Hollow seemed fine 2 weeks ago. There is water at Big Pines too, it's a couple of miles past Grassy Hollow just before the descent into Wrightwood. There is no food at either place so bring some calories with you.

I'll just kill you and take your water bottle if I need extra water as I am NOT drinking bleach. Oh, and same thing goes for the food...:D
You're sure getting testy lately. Or not.

Hi John. Thanks for asking, the back is good. I try to back off as soon as it has problems, the recovery is then measured in days, not weeks.
I would like to come, I may have an afternoon obligation that would make it easier to do a local ride.
If I can make it, I will meet at RedBox at 8:00am

Nah...I've always been like this which is why Bob keeps about 10 feet ahead of me and an eye on me from at all times. Other than that, I think he actually likes having me along on occassion. :p

Ahhh...Bob  You're just buttering me up so I won't whine, *****, moan, talk your ear off, take pictures in the middle of the road and ask 20 times in a row when we're having lunch already. :p:D

If I get my butt up tomorrow I should run into you guys somewhere between Newcombs and Redbox. I'll be going in the other direction, though.

We had a nice ride today with glorious weather and good company. A few of us had done this ride several times and knew what to expect from 80 miles and almost 9k climbing, all above 5000ft. The virgins did really well and seemed inspired by the beautiful setting and a very challenging ride. We were all hungry by the time we made it back to Newcomb's so linner sure hit the spot. I got your note Gene, I'm glad you made it out there with us and hope you got a good taste of what the San Gabriels have to offer. Another good day in the mountains. :)

Great day Bob, and I understand why you're stuck on that route. I just wasn't up to the task yesterday, but I'm working on it little by little. Just didn't want to leave you wondering what happened. That is a great ride and I'll be doing it again in the future with a little more prep.:)
