Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It was just suggested by one of us that a Milestones thread would be appropriate. I've been thinking the same thing, by the way, so here it is! It's going to make it easier for me to track and issue certificates too :)
Here are the initial categories
first 25 mile ride
First 50 mile ride
First 100 Mile Ride
First double Century
Millenium Rider Club (in a year)
2000 miles
3000 miles
and so on!
Let's hear about your intended milestones. I'm going to stick this thread for a bit.
Millenium Rider Club (in a year)
Thats my goal for 08
I have already done 25,50 and the Millenium so I will have to say do a century.

My only goal right now is to do a century before the end of 07. I could probably do it now if I could figure out a good route. Mo has lousy roads for biking.
Personal goal for 08 (hopefully ;) )
Ride a 200k, 300k and if my legs are up to the challenge 400k brevets
(did I just say that out loud )

I want to ride my age before it rolls over another year (that's 50 miles before mid-October).
Then maybe a metric century before the weather gets too awful.
I rode my age last year (40). This month is my birthday and I would like to ring it in with a Metric (64). Next Spring my ambition is to do a standard century (100). Then I will retire.
I have done 25 milers and 100 miles for a week and started commuting to work when weather permits. Those were all big goals for me.
The next is a 50 miler and 1000 miles before the end of the year.

Goals for the rest of the year:
Make my current wardrobe obsolete by losing inches around my waist. This will prove to my wife that exercise is more important than dieting.
Get my weekly mileage up to 100
Ride my age before my birthdayGoals for next year:
Lose more inches, and pounds
Ride at least one relatively flat century (in Eastern NC)
Ride at least one century in the NC mountains

I just started riding again. - I weigh between 205-215(i havent weighed myself in awhile)
My goals - By the end of the month a 25 mile ride(I've done a 19, so I figure that wont be too hard).
Mid October there is a 36 mile club ride that a friend wants me to ride with him in, so that is a goal.
End of the year I want to throw in a 50 miler!
Other than that, get under 200 by January.
Ride a 100 miles without destroying a wheel. Maybe Becky and I can go at this one together ;)

It's doable. 500 calorie a day deficit will lead to a pound a week loss.

And in support of this, in the past I found it really helpful to find some groups of people who will support you in your goal. This could be a group of local riders, people at the gym, or perhaps friends. Riding groups are very helpful, especially if they know your goal and will help motivate (push) you.

My personal goals for the rest of the year are
Get an official 100 miles in one day. Group ride or event
Get down to 200 by Jan.
Hopefully get my pace up to 20 MPH, at 18.5 or so now, so I hoping its do able.
Next year
Enter and finish an Olympic Triathlon.
Just wondering what is Millenium Rider Club?

You are guessing right ;) Same would apply to a double or triple or if someone hits 10000 miles, they'll be a 10XMillenium.;)

I have started to find that here slowly..... my problem is time.. I have been riding with a great group the last few years.. but the group season is about done for and being in school is hard on their scheduele! I go (well am returning now..LOL) to a gym. and have really uped my commuteing so I think I am on the right track!!
thanks!

Goals? You actually expect me to TELL you what I want to accomplish?
Sheesh. I haven't even told myself, yet.
Well, maybe I have some ideas.
I did my first one already; a local 23 mile loop with some pretty big hills.
Now I need to do it in under 2 hours.
By 15 Feb 2008, be under 194 lbs. I'm at 224 now. I know Tom, 500 calorie deficit...
Within the next year, a Metric Century. That'll more than cover the "do my age" ride, although I've got to do 40 before May...
There's a couple of local rides I'd like to do next year; the York 38 Special and the Helena Double Divide. The Special is almost within my grasp; the DD is a bit more of a reach.
If I get my road bike built over the winter, I'll throw in an Imperial Century also.
I think that's more than enough.
Well I had to adjust my goals for the year, but after the last couple of rides, I decided to put them back in place and shoot for them. I call them stretch goals.
3500 miles by 12/31
2000 miles by 9/15 (should be attainable, broke 1900 tonight.)
At least 1 century ride
get off the holding pattern in my weight and lose another 25 lbs.

Well, my goal weight is 190 (currently 225, down from 265 in April)
And I'd like to do a 25 mile ride and a 50 mile ride before the end of the year, and a century by August of 08.

My goal this year was to ride my age, 52. I did it plus one a couple of months ago. Then my goal was to ride around the lower half of the Door County peninsula in Wisconsin, about 65 miles, while on vacation. I did that without dying.
Now my goal is to ride a century next year.
My goal with my weight is to lose 40 lbs by the end of the year. That has been a lot harder than increasing my mileage on my bike.

I made the 50 mile and Metric Century goals; I was going for 100 miles by this fall, but knee problems were a bit of a setback. Now I'm gonna try to get in 100 miles by november, if the weather holds.
My long term goal is to do the High Point to Cape May trail over three days. I'd like to aim for spring 2008, but it depends if I can get a group together or find an existing ride. I'll start planning that after my october shore tour.

Hi all. I haven't posted in here much, but have been lurking. I started riding in late April and started out at 222 lbs. I really didn't set any goals but liked riding so much I have been able to accomplish a few things...
1. Dropped down to 208 lbs without seriously changing my eating habits (not great)
2. Am in noticibly better shape than I was less than 5 months ago.
3. Did my first metric + (76.5 miles) on 8/10/2007 - solo. (Pretty flat)
4. Did my first century (organized) on 9/1/2007 (a very flat one)
5. Have put nearly 1100 miles on my bike (will be there after Satrudays scheduled 50 mi solo ride)
6. Have gotten significantly faster on flats and stronger on hills (still have lots of room for improvement)
I am really enjoying this so far. Goals for the rest of 2007...
1. Drop enough weight where you guys will kick me out of here by the end of the year :D
2. Continue to try to get at least 60 miles a week in either on the road or on the trainer (yes I'm getting one :D).
3. Continue to improve my strength and cardio fitness where my current 35 & 50 mile, relatively hilly, routes become not much of a challenge. Then find bigger hills for next year:D
4. Monitor my eating habits carefully and eat a lot healthier (more fruits & veggies).
For 2008...
1. Keep getting at least 60 miles a week in (more if possible) with trainer & on the road.
2. Drop my weight to between 170-175 lbs (I'm 5'10" so that should be pretty good).
3. Complete the Clarksville Sunrise Century (the flat one) in under 6 hours (ride time). That would be about an hour improvement over this year.
4. Ride and finish the MS 150 Jack & Back.
5. Join a cycling club and do more group riding activity
6. Complete a 200k ride
7. Be able to finish my standard 50 mile route (relatively hilly) in under 3 hours.
I like goals. They keep me honest :D

Started commuting to work March 23, 2007
First bike accident in my life: March 23, 2007 (driver left a stop sighn as I passed infront of her car)
Re-Start commuting to work March 26th on new bike
1st 33 mile ride on June 8th (Ride for Roswell)
3 25+ mile excusions since then
Reach 1st 1000 miles Sept 4
Lost 10 Lbs since I started riding.
Currently at 1100 miles. I am now getting my bike ready to ride through winter (i.e. enhance personal visability under low light conditions.
Major goals:
#1 See how far and how often I can ride my bike through a Buffalo NY winter. I'll ride in cold or rainy weather, but I do not plan to drive why it is actively snowing. If I can't ride I'll SPIN at the health club
#2 Keep improving my endurance, and add upper body workout.
#3 Loose an additional 10 Lbs by spring
#4 Next Summer I plan to ride a 70 miles from my house to the Erie Canal (1 mile) and then follow the canal to my sisters house in Pittsford NY (about 3 mile from canal). My sister definitely want to do it and maybe I can get my parents to join in as well.
Well I had to adjust my goals for the year, but after the last couple of rides, I decided to put them back in place and shoot for them. I call them stretch goals.

2000 miles by 9/15 (should be attainable, broke 1900 tonight.)
At least 1 century ride
get off the holding pattern in my weight and lose another 25 lbs.
Well it took me an extra day due to weather (lots of lightning), but I finally cracked 2000 miles for the year. Now just 3 more to go.
