Betraying my complete lack of recent experience...what's up w/freehub lubrication?
I remember lubing up my freewheel, but don't see instructions at either parktool.com or shimano website for lubing rear freehub.
Is this just not really done w/free hubs?
TIA
If it is a Shimano freehub, you will want a Morningstar Freehub Buddy and a replacement dust seal. The freehub can then be lubed without removing it from the wheel. You must pry the dust seal out out of the freehub body, which usually ruins it. The FreeHub Buddy is then inserted into the freehub body. You can then inject oil into the Freehub Buddy, which forces it through the freehub mechanism. This flushes out dirt and relubricates. I use Outboard gear lube, which is recommended as having the right consistency. You can pick up a tube of it in any boat supply store. After you finish, install the replacement dust shield, which has a rubber o-ring around the outside edge. Both items are available from Bike Tools, Etc. (http://www.biketoolsetc.com) .
