Ubuntu took just less than 30 seconds.

It would probably be considerably faster if i had more ram.

My old P3/533 with BeOS would cold-boot to the desktop in four goddamn seconds. Add in loading whatever browser it used and loading BF, we're probably talking 15 seconds, tops.

I don't even turn off my computer nowadays, so I dunno. Turning it off would take away precious looking-at-this-gorgeous-monitor time.

I do believe you have a problem, sir. Not that it's my business. Just noting.

I have all kinds of problems. I'm okay with that.

BLIMP

Is there a way that I can make you not okay with your having problems, but not to such a degree as for it to interfere with your life, just make you uncomfortable?

x136
09-06-07, 11:50 PM
Probably, but I'm afraid that's something you're going to have to research on your own. Not something I should really be helping you with. You understand, I'm sure.

1:15. Damn.

I need to shave weight. Will removing the post-it-notes make me go faster?

Meh... takes me about 5 seconds to log in and click 'refresh' on my browser. Who turns their computer OFF, anyway??????? *boggles*

 You used BeOS? I'm so jealous... I wanted a BeBox for the longest time, and was hoping Apple would choose it for a Copland replacement back in the day. I even had my Mac themed with Kaleidoscope to make it look like I was running BeOS. Ah, the memories...

Something we used when you kiddies didn't know what a computer was yet.

No matter how hard I turn the crank on my computer box, it still takes around an hour and a half to boot up. However, the clown pops out of the top with much more authority at the end.

BeOS was definitely a good thing. I tried Zeta (the new version) but it never really progressed. You end up with a quick OS and the same 10-year-old interface

I thought it was blue steel.

Notice the left turn. It's Magnum.

Only ambiturners can pull off Magnum.

Yeah, well... you wanna see a QUICK OS??? Try running Win 3.1 on a P-III or faster. LIGHTNING fast! Not that I'd wanna use it everyday, but... :p

Alright, I ended up having to shut it off.

55 seconds from boot to login to browser to BF.

MacBook Pro

Not a good race.

My Quad Xeon Xserve with 16 gigs of ram and a terabyte of fcal connected RAID storage takes its time booting up.

But my Mac can beat up your Mac. :-)

Mine took about 30 minutes, but only because I turned on the computer and got bored of watching the time tick down so took a shower and ate breakfast.

Maybe 10 minutes. I turn on the computer, then go make coffee and an omelet in the kitchen, then return to type in my password to continue start-up, and then have breakfast while perusing Foo! :p
