Road Cycling - Knee's hitting aerobars when doing hills out of saddle

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I have syntace aero bars on my road bike and when I get out of my saddle to aggressively attack hills, my knees and legs just above my knees hits the arm pads on my aero bars. Its not really "hitting" but more like scraping enough to be frustrating.
The Syntace aerobars do not adjust so I think my only option is to swap my stem with a longer one. Any one else experience this problem, any suggested fixes?

how exactly is the top clip mounted? you might be able to make a spacer to lift it higher, or move it forward??

Unfortunately, it will move laterally but not up or away from the rider. Not much room for adjustment on the bars.

Swapping to a longer stem is obviously going to alter your position & bike fit. Is that what you want?

I mean the "clips" that mount the aeros to the bars. I'm sure they are screwed into the bottom of the aero bars, just make a spacer for the clip... that way you can move the aero bars up.

Take off the aero bars. Put them back on when you do a time trial.

Good suggestion. but I have bar end shifters and that sounds like a lot of work. Do you not think a little longer stem will work?

Spazegun, When I get home tonight, I'm going to be a little more thorough and see if the spacer ideal will work. Thanks.
