After doing a car free move with a fairly crude converted kid trailer, I decided I was getting way too much drag, esp. up hills. And while my creation can carry well over 100 lbs., I generally don't need that kind of capacity. So I broke from my tradition of buying used stuff off craigslist, walked into REI last night and bought a B.O.B. Yak. All I can say is, SWEEEEEET. It has virtually no drag, and as long as the load is kept fairly low and balanced it can haul a pretty hefty chunk. I'll be doing more experiments this weekend, but so far so good. It also has the very real potential of conversion to ski mode for the six months of darkness. Just pop the rear wheel out and use a busted up ski's nose to form a platform to keep it from sinking. I believe it might actually work, doubling my wintertime carrying capacity. Unlike my experiments with traditional sleds, it will also stay in control and not skid around or slam into the back of the bike on stops.
