Oh, for cry eye. You people are like drug pedalers. I am GOING to when I find the bike. :p In the meantime, I'm swapping out my wheels and seeing if that makes any difference. But I WANT the 07 Madone. And I AM looking at the 5.0/5.2. Oh, and I found out I'm a 51 frame. How is that possible?

BTW, aren't your riding a 54 now? 51 cm sounds small to me. How tall are you?

That doesn't surprise me. I thought I was a 48 for the longest time. It wasn't until I got on a smaller bike that I realized I was riding something that was too big. I found the smaller frame gave me greater power transfer on the pedals/frame (more energy forced downwards, rather than stretched out over the TT). Curiously, my 48cm had 165 cranks while my 44cm has 167.5.

If the specs say this:
Chainwheel 50/39/30

Does it mean it's a triple? And, yeah, yeah, I'm a blonde...I got it.:p

My bike shop swears that my bike is a 51. Where can I tell on the bike what size frame it is? (yes, I am THIS dumb when it comes to this crap). I could swear I'm a 54 too! I'm 5'5" tall with longer legs to waist ratio (I'm short waisted). So, that can't be right, can it?

Does Oui mean "yes, it's a triple" or "yes, you're a blonde?" :p

For Pete's sake, Joy, speak English! This is hard enough for me without you speaking Japespanishrussianese. :p

Thanks, Herb. I just can't believe mine is a 51. But then again the handlebars are very narrow, so maybe...

Actually the better question is not what you're riding now but what you should be riding. It's conceivable that a 54cm might have you too stretched out given a relatively short torso. Have the bike shop gurus check it out when you go for a test ride, assuming they know what they're doing.

Handlebars got nothing to do with frame size. Narrow bars are one of the things that are different on WSD bikes.

If you want the Madone, wait for the Madone. You'll be happy with the 5000, but you'll always think "I shoulda got the Madone"

It could be. Get on em and ride em. The Trek shops use that crazy sizing contraption so see what they say. The top tube length is prolly not that much different, perhaps just a few CM's.

Merry,
If you want to feel what it like on a 54cm Madone, you can try mine. Granted it doesn't have the "WSD"?? components but it should give you an idea on the ride.
Oh, if you can wait 'til Oct BF ride I will be there too.
Let me know.:)

It wouldn't surprise me that you're riding a 51 cm. I'm 5'7" and I ride a 52 cm or a 54 cm. If you really want to know though, get a tape measure and measure each of the tubes in the main triangle. Then go to the Trek website and look through the bike archives for the geometry information. At least, that would work if you could easily find the geometry for an older bike on the Trek website. I apparently cannot.

First off...why was THIS thread closed for cleanup!? :(

But if no Mod wants to listen to my whining :p....moving right along.

I have chosen no bike as of yet. In my defense, I did call four local shops (buying from Budget would be preferable) and NONE had a 2007 WSD Madone or a Lemond Versailles WSD 2007. So, I may have to wait a while until the 2008s go on sale.

EDIT: Oh, and thanks for asking, Dscott. ;) :)

ME, have you thought about just getting a frame set and building it up with just the parts you want/need? I am sure you would have a much better bike, and I think you would have plenty of help from BF.

I have Serg, because some folks on here have suggested it, but it's too much to consider all the measurements, etc. I just want to buy a WHOLE bike. :o

Merider,
I dont know if you are aware that Trek is trying to push out/discontinue the 08' Trek 5.1 and woman Madone version (WSD) as well.
I just stopped by at Jax's today and Paul has confirmed with the story.
I dont know if that will play to your advantage in seeking for a deal..but thought you might be interested to find out.

regards,
-G:)

PS- here is another thread that share similar story

Thanks, Gary. That's interesting. Why are they doing that?

Me,
Based on what Paul said that Trek wants to put more focus on higher ends bike and feeling the demand for 5.1 is less.
They will discontinue 5.1 and replace with the 4.0 series with better comp. While for WSD, according to Paul, Trek has already discontinue to produce it. (only making what has been pre-ordered)

I'm not sure if you are fixed on the Madone and if you do, perhaps you might want to see if you get your hands on one before it is out completely.

Good Luck.

You guys are so sweet, but here is the thing, I'm going to call my lbs as I'm confused. It makes me less worried than indignant if you are telling me that Trek is DISCONTINUING Madones and/or Women Specific Designs. Screw that. I'll then seriously consider Specialized. Why would I want to rush out and buy from a company discontinuing WSD bikes? When I talked to my lbs, there was no mention of this. And to be clear, if this just for the 2008 or for all designs going forward? And why would they discontinue either? :(

No, they are discontinuing the Madone 5.1 (both men's and women's models) as the entry level Madone in favor of the Madone 4.5. Trek is still offering WSD models.

B&L had a bunch of Tarmacs with 105's for 1800 and ultegras for 2k, iduno if they marked it lower now though. They had a bunch of Ruby's too. Not sure if your budget has changed since the OP.

On the other hand, the B&L 40% off has so far been an annual sale. If you missed it, there's always next year. :)
