If you own a Hollywood sport rack automobile hitch rack (sold also by performance and Price Point as well as others) with adjustable wheel hoops and adjustable hooks to hold the top tube of your bike........and if you travel with the rack empty............any untightened adjustment knobs will vibrate loose and fall off. Fear not, you can buy more from "Hollywoodracks.com" (yes it takes some nerve to go to a website with a name like that). Save the money, tighten the knobs before you lose them.

If you think that you might like an aluminium water bottle (or any other metal bottle) be advised that they rattle in most bottle cages like the chains of Christmas Past. (I got mine Christmas Past so this may not be unreasonable)

Think you might want to try a tinted visor on you helmet? It is amazing how hot it gets in there without wind flow.........

Avoid getting behind stinky smoke-spewing trash trucks on busy 2-lane streets going uphill :eek: where it is unsafe to pass the truck. The lowest gear came in handy today trying to go as slow as possible to stay as far as possible behind the truck. <hack, hack>

Chasing and catching the bike in front of you on a 50 mile ride- only to realise the rider is 6ft of sinew and bone and is riding slow because he is eating his Powerbar.

You can avoid punctures by not riding over grass clippings that have been slung into the road by mowers. Thorns and other sharp objects like to lurk there.

Also, when riding through neighborhoods where trash pickup is frequent, watch for broken glass especially near driveways where trash barrels are normally placed.

If unavoidable...wipe your tires.

I used this to my advantage last week. The front guy came off, and I maintained speed just long enough for him to fall behind me and block the others, then I punched it. No contest!

Been there, done that. The only thing that saved me was the bike rack on the back of the van. I circled in the driveway until I was aligned correctly then stopped and grabbed it. I had to remove the shoes from my feet because they wouldn't unclip from the pedal:eek: The tension was just a tad too tight and the cleats were replaced at the LBS for the correct ones for my pedals.

Never try to ride through a bunch of geese on the bike trails. They may move fast enough but you don't have time to check for things they've left on the bike trail:eek:
