Hi,
Yesterday I was driving (Saturday night) when a car throw some thick ice and water on me. It only very narrowly missed me and I was really dangerous on that high speed road. This is not the first time I server as target practice for brainless motorist who feel like throwing projectiles at me. I know that others in the group have had the same experience. Why do people do that? Because am I cycling? Is this the cause of their anger?

Take down a number and call the cops. This happened to me a few months back and that is exactly what I did. Don't let them get away with it. They are scum.

I am very sorry, Papeteebooh. You have more integrity then they do.
Call the cops. Get a license plate number.

let me guess... Two male occupants, probably young but not necesarilly, and the passenger threw the ice at you.
I don't know, something about peer pressure, testosterone, and ignorance.

Be glad it wasn't a beer bottle, that's what they throw here. Nothing thrown lately.

It's amazing that there are people like this all over N. America who view us as moving targets.
Terrorism comes in all sizes. By all means, report this as an assault case to local law enforcement.

These are the same kind of idiots who bashed my mailbox last night. Today I spent 30 minutes with plyers bending it back into a semi-mailbox-like shape so the door would close. No sense buying a new one because they will just do it again.

They are gutless cowards. They know that you can't chase them down. I doubt that they throw and yell crap at motorcyclists or other drivers who could follow them. Don't let the *******s get you down. I try to take note of the far greater number of courteous drivers, like today at a light there was a truck behind me that needed to pull up closer so as to activate the signal sensor. I motioned for him to get closer, and he explained that he didn't want to crowd me. Accentuate the positive!

This used to happen at my parent's farmhouse when the local teenagers (bored and often drunk) would do the same thing. Finally my father got sick of it and mounted the mailbox on a solid metal pole and attached the mailbox with a bearing so that the box would just swing if it was hit. My father said that it did the trick (I was too young to remember). :D
Very resourceful! I wish cyclists had an analogous defense.
(The mailbox bashing posting reminded me of the "mailbox baseball" scene in the movie, "Stand By Me." Aimless, hostile teenagers and young adults are a problem in every culture.)

I'm ashamed to say that I did this very thing when I was about 17 or 18, living in Rhodesia in 1979/1980.
Bunch of schoolmates, lots of beer and boredom and a baseball bat.

Well I can say you must be a very brave person to put your picture on the thread. Or maybe you put your least liked friend's picture on it?! :p Hopefully you have repented to the bicycling gods for your misdeeds. :D
Yeah I had a carload of guys throw stuff at me today. After the 11th I had thought maybe, just maybe people would have a little more respect for their fellow man, what was I thinking?

Tomorrow, you will be enjoying your cycling, still. What will they be doing? ;)

We had the same problem; we'd prop the mailbox up again, and the damn kids would come drive by and knock it down again.
Our solution? A great big shiny new mailbox. One anchored three feet into the ground with rebar and filled with cement (with a smaller mailbox on the inside to put mail in). Took about two hours to assemble the rig and add some wood to the outside.
My parents and I waited up that night, and sure enough, there was a *vroom* *screetch*, followed by a massive *clang* *bang* *Arrrrrgh! Motherf--- piece of s--- ***----*
We popped out of the house, and found an intact mailbox, a very dented baseball bat, and some paint (on the bat) and glass (on the road) from the car -- apparently, they sped by, tried to launch the mailbox skyward by hitting it with the bat, and instead discovered that metal bats will bounce off of concrete -- this one ricocheted back and slammed into the car (and likely did some nasty things to the wrist and/or shoulder of the individual wielding the bat).
Needless to say, we never had a mailbox problem after that. :D

Probably b*tching to each other about their weight problems. Gee, I'm cynical today!

Fantastic! Love it. Wish we could have seen that! Too bad you didn't have it on video!:p

I guess I'm cynical too; I've always kept myself in shape, hiking, running, weightlifting, and now cycling (which has pretty much nixed the first two and cut into my time for the latter, but oh well). I have no respect for the majority of Americans who b*tch, whine, and moan about their massive bellies, talking about the diet-of-the-month at the same time they call cyclists, bladers, hikers and joggers "childish" and "immature".
I understand that for some people, there are solid physiological reasons they are heavy, but for most people, a little exercise, like a twenty-minute bikeride or a forty-five minute walk, would make such a big difference, because they get ZERO exercise during the normal course of the day. Hell, even doing things like taking the stairs up to the office or walking the kids to school will do wonders.
Ok; I'll shut the carbo intake now.

I guess it's just easier to look like they do. You just have to attach yourself to a helium pump and not bother to say "when" :D .
Oh well, we are "childish and immature" after all ;)
