Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. When installing a standard set of ATB bar ends, what is necessary?

usually just an allen wrench. slide everything down the appropriate distance and put the things on. not much at all, 5 minute job

You'll need to trim the ends of the grips and probably move them along with your other handlebar hardware (shifters, brake levers, light mount, bell, computer mount, etc) inwards the length of the bar-end clamp unless of course you have those bar-ends that don't clamp around the outside of the bar but use an internal plug instead. To move the grips, use a stick-like device (wood or plastic such as a chopstick is preferable to metal if you have carbon fibre bars... be careful not to scratch the bar) to lift one end of the grip and spray some Windex (see the father from My Big Fat Greek Wedding was correct... you can use Windex to solve any problem) which will make the grips slippery enough to slide. When the Windex evaporates, it will be tight again.

I use Hi-Tack sprayed between grips and handlebars - it dries into a soft glue that can still be removed later, but locks the grips on really well. You will probably want some bar end plugs as well.

Just remember to drink the beer after you've done the work and not before you take the box-cutter to the ends of your grips... especially if you have carbon bars. :)

Good advise, that is.
