Well since I am a cigar smoker I am a bit biased. I smoke cigars and the ladies think I am very sexy. Lucky me! :D

Ex-smoker. Now hate the smell of burning tobacco.

HELL NO....one of the nastiest smells on Earth. Tell your wife to shove that burning cancer stick into your mouth and make you eat it next time you try to light one up.

Cigars are great!

I smoked years ago. Can't tolerate it--in any form--now.

Oh, and cigar smokers are suckin' on a phallic symbol. Just ask Freud.

I only like the smell of "Black and Mild" cigars. I still puff on them from time to time(w/o inhaling). Keeps me from going back to cigarettes.

Horrible smell. Funny how tobacco can smell so different depending on whether it's a cigarette, a cigar or a pipe. Out of the three, cigar smoke is by far the worst!

Cigars smell good. Problem I have is they still taste like ass. So I've tried them a couple times, but don't see the point in them.

They're great if you want me to vomit all over you. Can't help it - the smell does it to me with predictable regularity.

when i was a grad student- i worked with a coroner who
would light up a cigar when we did an especially gross case,
all of the aromas blended together to make them all a little more
"pleasant". he would hold the cigar with a pair of forceps like a
giant roach clip, never having to touch it; no matter how messy he was.
those of who live in areas with a lot of blackflies somtimes will "dust"
our clothes and exposed skin with cigar smoke, it seems to help
the the little beasts at bay.

Depends on the cigar. They're not all the same.

A cigar made by Acid Cigar called Nasty
seems to be especially effective on blackflies.

I'm a former smoker, quit 17 years ago, and yet I like the smell of tobacco smoke...pipes, cigars, and even cigarettes. I don't worry about the hazards of second hand smoke, either...I figure if I survived 30 years of 3-pack-a-day cigarette smoking, an occasional whiff of smoke isn't going to hurt me.

No I don't. My Uncle Eddy smoked those things and I knew when he was at the house when I came home from school. I hated that smell, and still don't like it.

True 'nuff.
I can't stand the smell of cheap cigars. I'm not talking about price, either, because Dominican and Jamaican rounds can be had for as little as $3.00 each. I'm talking about machine made, tube bound, chemically flavour laced crapola cigars like Swisher Sweets or Black And Milds. Sorry; Alfalfa packed in a cardboard binder tube and wrapped with a reject leaf from Brown and Williamson before being sprayed with fake vanilla and glued to a plastic filter tip... that's not a cigar.
Now, set me up on the big leather sofa with a glass of scotch and a Partagas 8-9-8 at the Vancouver Cigar Company, and I'm a happy man.

I like smoking them and the way they smell. They remind me of the old guys down in the front row at the ballpark and of the NYC subways when I was a kid. Few things seem to polarize people like cigars. My father in law smokes cigars, so my wife thinks they're dandy.

True, Swishers are the Yugos of the cigar world.

Nice poll!

I agree with the assessment, but I think the good wife should aim a little lower. :p :D

I'm not a smoker, but pipe tobacco can have a pleasant aroma. Cigars are simply vile. Cigarettes just make my blood vessels. chest and nose constrict.

The aroma inside a tobacco curing barn - good. Burning tobacco - I'll pass.

But Freud supposedly said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

.

Freud also died of oral cancer, and stopped saying much at all. Had his palate and jaw removed, but smoked cigars up to the bitter end.

Cigar smoke smells OK for a few seconds, but it goes stale very quickly. And it really stinks up a place thoroughly, even if the place is a city street.

HELL NO! First of all, I never have and never will be someone who smokes.
Second, the odor of the f-ing things smells like there's a dump fire going nearby.

Cigars no ... pipes yes. And yes I'm a non-smoker. It's a nostalgic thing for me I guess. My grandfather used to smoke a pipe.

Hell no...Its gross.

I would rather have hardwood fire smoke all over me than a cigar. Its nasty when my dad smokes because he smells, his car REEKS, and when he does it outside the whole house reeeks.

cigars are disgusting. there was a guy in our team tent at the ms150 choking everyone out today with his inconsideration. who the hell smokes a cigar in the team tent at a century ride? lol

Good cigars smell good as they are being smoked. The stale cigar smell that lingers in fabrics afterwards is not very nice though.

I agree. One thing I really dislike is people smoking (anything) in public places, especially when walking down the street--if you really want/need to smoke, stay in one spot so people don't have to smell you for blocks.

i admit...i kind of like the smell of cigars...to me it's a festive smell. It reminds me of my older male relatives who used to smoke cigars. They either stopped or have since died. But ever since, when i smell cigars, i think of weddings or festive occastions.

I'll remember to aim at you when I barf. I did that once when I was 10. My mom was mortified. I wasn't. It's not like I could hold it in or escape the smell.

Clever poll, what with the all yeses. Any sort of tobacco smoke gets a gag reflex from me, and I suspect that if you're a guy attempting to attract women, you've diminished your chances by about 40 per cent.

That would be Te Amo. I prefer these, which I dug out of one of my humidors. There's even a Dominican among them, to prove that I am not a snob.

Pipe smoke - in particular cherry. All others suck. Oh, and unburnt smells great too, but that smoldering nastiness is bad. Not sure if the cured tobacco comes from growing up by tobacco farms.

My friend and I stole one of my fakedad's cigars back in the day. We didn't know you weren't supposed to inhale.

I vomited for hours, and to this day, the smell makes me gag.

pipe smoke, yes. other gross.

i will admit that i pick up a bag of fresh vanilla pipe tobacco occasionally. i put it in a covered vase in my bedroom and very rarely catch a whiff of it and it is quite nice and suprising. wouldn't smoke it tho.

crack on the other hand... :D j/k

Wait, you don't inhale cigars? So what's the point? Just to have a thingy hanging out of the corner of your mouth that happens to be on fire? How bizarre.

When my son visited from Australia last year, he made some unsavory friends. One of them helped themselves to my collection of Cuba's finest. Some of these cigars were smuggled into this country by me not once, but twice. I certainly didn't go through that trouble so a 17 year old punk could smoke them. Kids like you got what you deserved. :p

It's the aroma and the flavor in the smoke. Nicotine is also absorbed through skin contact, so I sometimes use a plastic holder. I read somewhere that cigarettes have thousands of added chemicals. Cigars are wrapper, binder, and leaf. No added chemicals.

You can get a nicotine buzz from them. It's absorbed through skin and mucous membranes...

I like the taste and smell of a rich cigar. I don't like mild ones, they smell like crap to me.

I smoke the occasional cigar and pipe. It's very rare for me to, but I enjoy them.

Nasty, smelly horrid things that have different odors per brand: Bad and worse. Worse ones are comparable to one of my old bar customers - fat stubby cheap things --- those smelled like the city sewer, raw poo - gave me a headache each and every time. <shudder>

This thread makes me want to get my humidor going again. It's dormant in my closet right now.

Then I remember I'm still in college and that's weird.

Then I look at the tights (bike clothes) in my closet and go back to thinking about getting some distilled water for the humidifiers.

It's a weird sort of though process, only ended by laziness.

Just so it's not the old-timer smoking poop in stick form.

I'll be on a supported tour next with with several friends, one of which brings along his portable humidor. Mikey always has some top notch stogies along...Cubans, Dominicans, etc. Better cigars, like better beer, do arouse the senses. As a non-smoker, I do enjoy tobacco smoke in very limited doses and usually outdoors...like at a baseball game.
