I was wavering for a while, and I think Im leaning toward the F219's. I tend to be moslty a XC rider weighing in at 185, I dont usualy race or anything, might get into it at some point, but who knows. The x317's are a light weight XC rim, but Im afraid I might dent and bend them a bit. For 20 bucks less a rim I can get the much beafier, but a bit heavier F219 free ride rim. I believe the weight difference is about 175 grams per rim. Will I really notice this difference in weight? or should I go with my gutt here and get the cheaper stronger rims? I have read the reviews and both have excelent reviews for what they are intended.

If you're not planning on racing, and just going to use them for aggro riding, I'd go with the F219's.
I had a pair of X317's and they were awesome, but too lightweight for me. I used them as my race wheels only!

I am on the same dillema russel. F219 i believe is the proper way forward unless you are lightweight and do only XC.

I just got a front 317, i like it! I'm going out to do some 4-5' drops now to see how it holds up.
I'm starting to think doing anything bigger than 4-5' especially wheelie drops on my specialized m2 frame is a BAD idea.

sounds like its unanimous for the F219's unless I drop 40lbs, or start racing seriously.
RussellM, i come into a same situtation like you, was thinking about getting a x317D but worry about my technique will abuse(bent) the rim. Finally i pick mavic F519 with DT swiss onyx disc hub, the F519 rim is some 50grams heavier than x317. During past 6months of abusing my bike, my F519 is still going strong and in perfect round shape.
i don't race and i ride xc only. i weight 140lbs. BTW, i am a weight weenie..
just my 2cents. :p
