NOS from either 1952 or '49 depending on which expert's got it right. Beautiful chrome.
Rare as that is, and it's got to be rarer than the Masi we saw a few monthsa ago, they've got something rarer. Click the "See other Auctions" link and you'll see a Sturmey-Archer 3 speed fixed gear hub, also NOS. They pop up on occasion and seem to sell for about $400 or so. This NOS one will probably rival the price of the frame.
If you're willing to drop the big $ you could build the ultimate English Club Racer from the 1930s-1950s era. Yours would be a bike most of the "clubmen" wouldn't have been able to afford back in the day, but boy would they have admired it.
Already out of my range and under reserve but that IS the vintage bike I'd love to find somewhere.

Wow, very nice! I'll gladly take that 3 speed fixed hub as a donation ;)
The high bidder is very well known in the
classic bike community.
That is one gorgeous machine.
Speaking of Masi check this one out:

its the twin of the previous NOS masi. I'd kill for one
of these. why are they all 59cm or 61cm frames.
Latest rumor from CR list: A Brian Baylis wizard frame just
sold for $7.00 at a Goodwill shop.
All I ever find are huffys and murrays (and not the good ones!).

I have to tell Brian about that the next time I see him!
well since it was reported on CR list
and Brian posts there often I'm sure
he knows.
John, did you notice that the seller of the Claude is
Jim Cunningham and Cycleart?

Hey Lotek,
What's the CR list?
I'm glad the Masi isn't my size. I would have a hard to explaining that one to wifey dear.
Classic Rendezvous list.
Its a listserve type of thingie (hows that for technical)
for vintage lightweight bikes. Very informative about
old bikes and some "keepers of the faith" (i.e. Richard Sachs,
Kirk Pacenti, Peter Weigle etc.).
Follow this link to get on: (I get digest since it puts out
lots of e-mail)

I never find things like this in my size, but sometimes thats
a good thing (maintains marital harmony) :D .

FWIW the ASC hub has been relisted. I was wrong about the price, it topped out at about $400, under Reserve. That's about what the last used one sold for I saw on eBay. Nowhere near the frameset which went for $1850.
I'll give Cyclartist credit. If they think something is valuable they price accordingly. Starting at $499 and a "Buy it Now" of $850. It is rare in fact as a NOS piece it might even be unique but that's mucho dinero.

that NOS masi sold for $4000.
probably sold for 1/4 that when new.
