Today, my wife (who finished three sprint tris earlier this summer) and I did a team "triathlon" comprising a .75 mile run, followed by 1.5 mile canoeing (yes, canoeing), and finishing like a normal sprint tri with a 14-mile bike ride and a 5k run. The catch is that the teammates have to start and finish each leg together.
Full disclosure: I actually did one triathlon, a sprint, about 15 years ago when I was 16, so I'm more of a "born-again" tri newbie.
Anyway, this event was pretty fun, and good for me because now I know I can handle the run right after a ride. And while canoeing isn't swimming, I wasn't worried about that part of a tri anyway, as I come from a competitive swimming background (well, a long time ago) and swimming comes pretty easy to me.
No results available yet, except we finished in about 1:57. I feel that I could have gone considerably faster, and now I'm really looking forward to my first season of tris next year.
