Got up before 4am yesterday to go fishing. Caught the 4:20 BART train to San Leandro. From there to Lake Chabot. I need a better way to carry my two piece fishing pole than a timbuk2 bag. No bites:( . The most frustrating thing, lots of activity from the fish on the lake. Sometimes even just a couple of feet away from us.
I forgot how much fun night time biking is:D Cooler full of ice and beer was heavy.

Maybe it's good you got skunked. How would you have carried home a really big whopper of a fish? Or if you had limited?

I would've kept the ice instead of dumping it.:)

What were you fishing for? Sorry you got skunked but at least you got to enjoy being at the lake .
Keeper sized Striper are finally making their way into the Port Of Sac. Also it fall bit time for the Large Mouth Bass.
Can't wait until end of the month when I'm on vacation. Then I can break free from the family and do some serious fishing. :) .

Yup still a nice morning by a lake. I was going for catfish with chicken liver and nighcrawlers. Would've used mackerel instead of nightcrawlers but the marina was out. IMO flounder and catfish are the best tasting fish around.

If you put a rear rack on your bike, you should be able to attach a piece of PVC pipe to the side that's big enough to hold your rod pieces vertically. Just glue a cap on the botom of the pipe.
Sometimes the carp in Chabot are near the surface, and they will not bite while there. Even for the catfish, I'd try nightcrawlers, and put a little anise oil(licorice) on them.

Try basspro.com. I bought a ATV handlebar rack to put on my mtb for carrying my shotgun, and it could easily be converted to carry a two piece pole across the handlebars. Or just velcro-strap it to the top tube, like a frame pump.
