Hello This is my first post!

My wife is looking at road bikes and she put one on layaway because the price was right ( 05 Ironman/slice). The lbs fitted her and said if she would like any other bike it wouldnt be a problem to change our minds if we found something else to her liking.

I have a hybrid cannondale thus I can ride faster and longer against her comfort bike( road bike will help her keep up). Would you please explain the difference, and does it really matter wether the bike is a triathlon or performance road bike? By the way she wants to train for local/state events, I may be joining her but right now this uber clydesdale is on a hybrid 6'1"@ 355lbs from 450lbs. She has done well also @ dropping 26lbs since july 4th weekend . Basically we're hooked on cycling!!!:D

The riding position for dedicated triathlon bikes is quite different than that on a road bike, and quite uncomfortable for anything but triathlons. Even many tri athlete use road bikes now that they have drafting just like in road racing. I would not suggest a triathlon bike for general road riding. Of course, opinions are like..., well, you know. You can always find someone who loves a tri bike for general road riding. Generally-speaking though, it's not the right bike for the job.

Mostly a tri bike does 2 things....it is very aero and it uses different muscles so when you get off the bike you can still run pretty well....

My girlfriend is actually selling her road bike and keeping her tri bike BUT she is in to longer distance triathlons. So it might not be a good compairason....they do make bikes that split the differance....not as aggressive as a tru tri bike and not as relaxed as a road bike. I might suggest one of those if she is getting in to tri's but not wanting to buy 2 bikes....
