Hi. Please don't kill the noob. My question is simple: Can I wash my helmet? I mean, submerge the mother. I've put in over 1700 miles this season, and it smells like a monkey's @$$. Just want to know if it's been done, or can be done, or if there's a good way to do this versus really, really bad way to do this.

*Taking aim*
Just kidding, yes, you can wash it, just use "Mild soap and water"
Hell just dunking it in water after every ride helps... (just for your info, I dont do this, I think about it, but I never get round to it)
Everyone seems to have a different way of doing it though. Try doing a search for "wash helmet".

Shouldn't be a problem washing it. You could also periodically take out and wash the pads on the inside to slow down the smell build-up. There gets to be a point, though, when the thing just needs to be replaced.

I shower wil mine on aftera long ride. Shampooing is b*tch though. Those vents may be aerodynamic but they certainy aren't shampoodynamic.

You want to wash your helmet after 1700 miles? That sure is a long time. I usually have to replace mine after 2 or 3 hundred do to structural failure. :D

I bring mine in the shower every now and then, has not melted yet.
wash it with water and mild soap.
you can use shampoo if you want, shampoo is just mild detergent and it smells good.
And it might give your hair a more shiny look if you wash your hair with it:D :D :D

I'm guessing that people don't draft you for very long... :D
I rinse mine out after every ride with the hose thingie on the kitchen sink -- just put it in the sink and rinse the pads real good. Every so often I'll fill the sink with water & Woolite and give the pads a good scrubbing and then rinse.
spray the pads and whatnot with a liberal amount of windex.
good to go. Mountain Bike Action recomends this method.

I posed a similar question a while back (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32568)...
