Here is a link to a thread with some pictures from our ride Saturday. Many people don't realize such great riding exists so close to Los Angeles. Light traffic, 30 miles of no traffic, and mountain views. I love it up there. Thanks to merider for the pics and vertical bob for organizing.

That looks like a great place to ride. What was the deal with the closed road? Were you guys poaching? :)

That looks like a great place to ride. What was the deal with the closed road? Were you guys poaching? :) The road is closed due to a washout from a storm a few years ago, but it's no problem to lift a bike over the gate and go on. The pavement is new all the way up to the washout, where there is a short dirt section, then another gate and you'e back on the open highway. The high point is 7900 feet, and most of the route is above 6000, so it's cooler in the summer.
In the picture where we're sitting in the road, (Dawson Saddle) gliders sometimes fly over, one was so close, we could see his face as hs waved to us. This mountain overlooks the Mojave desert, and you can see Lockheed Skunk Works and Edwards Air Force base, where they have landed the space shuttle.
The bad news: Because I had to work all day this past Saturday, I missed my usual Saturday morning ride with the YMCA MasterFit club.
The good news: To the office and back constitutes a pretty decent ride.
Thanks for posting; that road looks great!
