Yep.........sometime tomorrow the world will officially recognize me as being 55!!! I've already been receiving Sr Citizens' discounts (although a lot of places seem to constantly push the threshold higher) due to my white hair. I've already been riding in an older age bracket in the Time Trials as we use end of year age. I got my driver's license renewed this past week so I can check that off the list. I have the colonoscopy scheduled for October (after riding season starts to wind down) so nothing more to do there until the day before. I always said I'd retire at 55 but with 3 college tuitions that desire will need to be relaxed for a while. While I did 62 miles yesterday I think I'll just wait and let the 102 mile Grandfather ride next Sunday be the birthday ride. I'm not sure I need to do another 55-60 miles prior to this coming weekend anyway. I do have a golf outing tomorrow afternoon so that should be a nice and fitting way to celebrate the day.

Let's see......I'm riding faster and am more fit at 55 than I was at 45 or 50 so that is good. I'm riding more miles and have more cycling friends at 55 so that is a nice plus. I've done many, many more metrics and centuries at 54 than I did at 50 so that's positive. I have better bikes and cycling equipment at 55 so that is ok. My golf game is better at 55 than 50-not quite as long but scores are consistently better so that is good. I have more assets at 55 than 50 so that is positive. None of my kids have gotten in too much trouble to where a little money, patience and parental counseling solved their issues so I guess that is okay. My wife and I seem to understand each other and she will be starting a business before too long so hopefully that is good. Amazingly after a number of mergers and changes my employer still keeps me on the payroll so that helps. My nutrition and eating habits are much better at 55 than 50-well except for an occassional lapse here and there. My HR, BP and cholestrol are better at 55 than at 50 so that is really good.

So, while there are lots of areas I still need to work on (both physical and spiritual) and make some improvements overall things appear to be okay. Let's just go ahead and bring on this 55 thing tomorrow. I think I'm ready-even if I do look more like my parents with each passing day!!!!!!!

That's pretty neat. No wonder I felt a special karma when I was out riding around Taos last summer!!

You are about to move into a new age bracket on some surveys. While some use 40-49, 50-59 brackets, others use 45-54, 55-64, or 50-54, 55-59, etc. I know 55 is a new insurance premium bracket.

But, in 5 years, you'll wish you were 55 again. So enjoy it to your fullest.

I'm one year and one day younger, I'll be 54 on 9-11.

Everything you said is true for me too.

Life is good.
