Tuesday a small miracle will happen in my tiny apartment.....ok it's a hovel.

After ten years of dial-up I will be getting Road Runner cable access for the computer, and it is only ten dollars per month more, at least for the first twelve months. So yes VV, you too can probably afford it.

Now my question. What guidelines do you folks have for picking a name for e-mail? My current e-mail name is klaatu51, which has some meaning for me but sounds a bit goofy for others.

So, any suggestions or guidelines?

get one with your name for professional use, one for your friends, and a disposable one for places that want one and will get you on a spam list (change it when the spam gets bad).

I actually got a resume for a job opening off of monster and the gist of the email address was sexygirl@something.com

First off, I wouldn't worry about the email for your dialup. It makes more sense to me to get a yahoo, hotmail, or gmail account as your primary email. You can access those accounts easily from any computer. I don't even know how to access my parents cox email account from satellite computers.

As far as your new name, depends on what it's used for. john.smith@hotmail.com is a good format to follow. Or jsmith@hotmail.com. Those are typical professional formats. For more fun/personal accounts do whatever you want. I suggest not using numbers. It makes remembering the email more difficult as well as typing it. Was her email susy808 or suzy080? john1170 or john1710? It looks stupid imo too.

What city are you in that they are offering a year for $9.95 per month?

I don't use my roadrunner email, not even sure what it is any more. I'd say ignore it and get a gmail or some other account that you won't lose if you ever stop using roadrunner.

Thanks for all the help. As an old fart I shouldn't need to ask these questions but it never hurts.

MeMyth,

It is only ten dollars more per month than my dial-up, meaning it is about 35/month. Sorry if that was confusing.

Thanks again, and thanks for passing up on an easy opening to take some pot shots.

Your road runner username should be "IHateMyAccount" that way your email address would be IHateMyAccount@roadrunner.com
Or just use a different email server or a forwarding address so no one knows your road runner username is really l0ves_teh_pr0n
