Today, just before going out on a little ride myself, I got a call from my daughter. Seems she and her family had just gotten back from a little ride at the Pea Ridge Militay Park near their home in Arkansas.

As some of your may recall, I took my bike down there on our last visit, and we rode the park. It is a wonderful ride, nice scenery, quiet, good road, and one killer hill! Although I managed to make it up the hill, my daughter, who is new to cycling, had to walk to the top. After making it to the top, I coasted back down and walked with her (I needed the break, this is one steep hill!)

The reason for todays call? My daughter made it to the top of the hill under pedal power! She was so excited about it, and I in turn was very happy for her! I told her that this is one of the many wonderful things about cycling, the things that at one point seem impossible, and before long, you can accomplish!

Oh, yes, and another milestone...my grandson, riding his first real bike, complete with training wheels, made it about 3/4 of the way around the park! What a guy!

In the light of the terrible events of the last week, little highlights like this seem to mean even more!

God Bless America!!

I know the feeling. I enjoyed a nice 30 mile ride today with my 7 year old on the tandem. It was about 10 miles further than we normally go and I was afraid I had wore him out. That worry didn't last long though. As soon as we got home he jumped on his bike, rode to his friends, and played on the trampoline. Oh, to have the energy of youth! Dad took a nap.

That's great, Nebill! My daughter got her very first bike with the hand brake for her birthday, and she's been riding it almost everyday. When we went to get her bike, she opted for the non-streamer version, and when the salesperson handed her the blue-flowered helmet, she decided she wanted the black helmet with orange and red flames on the sides! :D

I don't know where she get's it from, but she sure is a character! ;)

It's great to see kids enjoy themselves! :D

Thanks for the replies!

The sport of cycling has been so good to me, I think the only way I can repay it is to spread the word! And who better to reap it's benefits than my own progeny!

Ride on people, and God Bless America!!
