The first trip I went on with a digital camera was Ecuador and a week on a boat (without air conditioning) around the Galapagos. It doesn't get much more humid than that. Camera performed fine. I did make some silica gel packs for moisture management and put the camera in a ziplock at night.

My old camera (that I recently replaced) had this problem occasionally. It takes a lot of humidity to cause it to happen -- mine only started behaving that way after a couple of rides in heavy rain. It's fairly easy to fix, just use your fingers to open the lens cover manually. The only thing you need to be careful of is to avoid leaving fingerprints on the lens itself.
