My brother, my nephew, and I, went for a ride yesterday afternoon, on a local MUP. We rode matching early Dahon 3-speeds. Should have seen the other riders and the pedestrians stare! Nearly everybody smiled or laughed. Parents pointed us out to their kids. Maybe next time we will wear sombreros or big yellow shoes with red noses! :)

Sounds like a blast! Interesting how little wheels are thought of as clown bikes.

I wonder how many of those first generations are still on the street? It seems like Dahon made very long lasting 16' inch wheel folders 20 years ago!

Jur,
I get that statement quite often, at first by LBSs, then workmates, giggles from air-head school girls, "Hey, cool bike" from feral school boys. I'm usually going too fast to listen to them or to snap back a biting remark. I do get interested people stopping and chatting when I'm down the street and I'm noticing more folders and 20" wheels around here.....so I'm not the only clown in Central Vic. :D
So, if anyone is visiting here and sees a black/yellow waspy looking 20" wheel bike with the rider decked out in the classic red/yellow and black Raleigh Team jersey going through town at warp 5 speed......it's me

(Steve, are you on BV forums (http://www.bv.com.au/forums/)?)

I also get the "cool bike" comment from schoolboys regularly. They see small wheels, instead of "toy" they think "cool". So somewhere along the journey to adulthood this transition from cool to toy happens. Then you get over road bikes, and onto folders, and you've gone full circle! :D

Last year when I announced my intention to do the Alpine Classic 200km, a workmate said, "Are you going to take your clown bike?" I retorted, "Yes I am, because unfortunately my folder is not suitable so I'll be on the Giant CRX." :D
