Foo - Oregon Wine Country
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm thinking about bringing my lovely wife out to Oregon for a couple days so we can wander around the wine country south of Portland. Any of you Oregonians got some suggestions on things to see, places to stay, etc.? I'm doing the standard online searching but there is no better information tha those folks that are there.

Things to see...
After visiting the wineries. take a drive south from Dallas to Wren on the King's Valley Highway (OR 223). It's a pleasant country two lane road with low traffic. Along the way, you will see the Ritner Creek bridge right next to the road...
...and the Harris bridge about 2.5 miles southwest of Wren on Harris Road. It spans the Marys River.

Dang. If you can wait a week, you should ask Shifty these questions. He's doing Cycle Oregon this week. I believe he's into the whole Wine Country thing. I'm more of a beer girl, myself. :)

How much are you willing to drive? I agree that the coast is definitely worth the trip, and Astoria is a nice place to visit. Silver Falls park will be close by, and I highly recommend that. If you can get into the Cascades, they're nice. My favorite place is Crater Lake, but that's quite a distance to drive.
However, as far as things in the valley go, the wineries are the best thing there. I regularly ride the roads including Kings Valley highway mentioned in a previous post. They're OK, but nothing better than you'll see just getting to the wineries.
The wife isn't a cyclist and we are only going to be out there for maybe 4 days so cycling is not in my cross check. We'll be renting a car so I can see driving out to the coast as an option. Thanks for the bridge's tour and coastal ideas!!
