Im headed out to the Cleveland suburbs from San Francisco and am bringing my bike with me. Im wondering about any good rides to go on or anything else happening in the city. Is there a fixed gear community out there at all?

I'm surprised by the number of fixed gear bikes I see in the West side suburbs. Don't know where they got them, none look new. Remember the West side is flat land and the East side is hilly.
I work on the far East side and there's a pretty strong community of bike commuters in my office. Many of them ride Single Speed and/or Fixed Gear. Most (if not all) commute from the Lakewood area. Hanging out in that area I'm amazed by the number I see rolling through the streets in the middle of the night.
The bike community here isn't as organized as in other major cities but there's definitely a good group of FG/SS and roadies around just begging for someone to put something together we can all be a part of.
We have pretty well organized "Bike to Work" events, great roads and paths, and a lot of fun hills to conquer. Shoot me a PM when you get to town if you're putting something together. I ride a roadie myself but one of my good friends is very avid in the FG scene and may be able to let you know about meets or whatever. Seems the FG community is a lot stronger since there's so few of them.
I live on the near west side of cleveland. There are fixies everywhere but there is not much of an organized community. You could try posting one the Ohio forum of http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/forum/. You will always finc a few locked up outside of Great Lakes Brewing Company or Phoenix Coffee on Detroit Ave,
It's been a while since you posted this, but I just came across it today. If you like free beer you should come to Now That's Class! on Thursday nights (its on Detroit road just off 117th). If you ride your bike you get your first beer free (any beer). A lot of fixed gear riders come up there, especially in the summer. Also, everyone else was right about the West side. Lakewood has a lot of fixed gear riders and many do hang out at the Phoenix.
I don't have a fixed gear, but that's just a mile from my house! (near Lakewood Park)
It doesn't matter if you don't ride fixed. I can't speak for everyone, but I can say that most cyclists around here (messengers or not) are happy to ride in groups with anyone; regardless of what kind of bike they ride. Being a snobby loner in Cleveland can be dangerous, especially when bike problems arise in sketchy neighborhoods late at night.
Along time ago we had a friend, he was about half way between my fathers age and my age. Down in his basement he had a track bike and a set of wooden rimed wheels. He would tell stories about riding in 6 day bike races (Madison's).
Oh man, if only you could get your hands on that thing!
